Purpose  

With specific direction from Facilities Manager provide janitorial duties and light grounds maintenance around buildings including oversight and daily direction for other housekeeping staff.  Daily work ranges from pest control, cleaning bathrooms, lobbies, and public spaces to preparing areas for events, including staging equipment needed for such events; work may also include assisting in facility repair.  Execute all activities with the highest standards for safety, customer service, and in keeping with the Nature Center’s Mission, Values, and Principles.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

FACILITIY MAINTENANCE & HOUSEKEEPING (70%):                                                                                         

Coordinate efforts with other facilities staff to :

  • Ensure all facilities and grounds are clean and safe
  • Conduct daily housekeeping duties at all buildings. Housekeeping duties include, but are not limited to, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, keeping windows and sills clean, wiping down walls, emptying trash, ensuring bathrooms are cleaned, etc.
  • Ensure sidewalks are clean and accessible, including leaf, snow, or other debris removal at all buildings
  • Ensure parking lots are clean of litter and trash and trash is emptied from outlying areas                             
  • Maintain feed in all bird feeders and assist with maintenance and installation of exhibits
  • Ensure pest control measures are executed as needed through all buildings at both properties
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of all cleaning supplies as needed for the organization

FACILITIY REPAIR (10%):  

  • Assist with minor repairs to plumbing and electrical systems
  • Assist with painting and carpentry as needed.

ADMINISTRATIVE (20%)

  • With specific direction from Facilities Manager provide assistance with overseeing the Housekeeping team, including delegating tasks and addressing any outstanding needs across CNC campus
  • Act as liaison/point person with Venue Rental team to attend their weekly meetings and keep the rest of the Facilities team updated with any information regarding upcoming venue rentals
  • Assist Facilities Manager with creating the Housekeeping schedule and adjusting/covering shifts as needed
  • Assist Facilities Manager with MSDS implementation and work with staff to keep binders up to date and current
  • Coordinate with weekend Housekeeping lead to make sure all team needs are addressed and/or met by end of week
  • Work with staff to identify supply needs and maintain regular ordering with suppliers
  • Maintain equipment log and work with Facilities staff to address any repairs as needed

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • REGULATORY COMPLIANCE: Ensure all work complies with OSHA and Cincinnati Nature Center safety procedures and rules.
  • VOLUNTEERS: Maintain positive working relationships with all volunteers and direct work as needed.
  • SPECIAL EVENTS:  Provide support for all rentals and events including setups, parking, and venue cleanup.  These events may fall after hours or on weekends.

  • Safety equipment will include eye and ear protection and respirator masks, with a regular exposure to commercial cleaning products, paints, stains and other products necessary to complete routine cleaning.

Qualifications

Education and Competencies:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • The ability to work well on a team, but flexibility to work independently with little supervision.

Communication:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be able to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and guests
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information
  • Be able to lead and direct team members effectively while maintaining a respectful and positive work environment

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and pass an MVR check
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Punctuality and dependability a must
  • Must be available evenings and weekends
  • Commitment and ability to articulate The Nature Center’s mission
  • Flexibility will be essential and other duties may be assigned as available
  • Collaborative working style
  • A sense of humor, creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • General interest in nature and the environment

Computer Skills:

  • Must be able to navigate basic scheduling, email, and word processing software.
  • Must be able to set up AV equipment (training offered if needed).
  • Smart phone experience a plus

Work Environment:

  • Majority of work will be performed outdoors, sometimes in uncomfortable weather including high heat, humidity and rain.
  • Some work is performed indoors in an office environment and outdoors in nature preserve and farm environments.
  • Local travel may be required including to LBFT in Goshen. When a CNC vehicle is not available, the use of personal vehicle (reimbursed at IRS recommended rate) may be needed for CNC business.
