What AMC is looking for
· Bachelor’s degree with studies in Recreation, Natural Resources Management or other relevant disciplines is desirable.
· Minimum of 4-6 years of trail maintenance and construction, natural resource management, and outdoor programming, with previous supervisory and leadership experience. Experience can be in any combination of staff or volunteer roles.
· Extensive knowledge of and experience in a wide range of natural surface trail maintenance and construction techniques, including stonework, timber work, carpentry, rigging, machine operation, Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guidelines, ABA Guidelines, and HETAP Trail Assessment.
· Excellent organizational skills that include the ability to handle many different projects simultaneously and find creative solutions to problems.
· Proven successful supervisory ability of seasonal employees.
· Proficiency in the use of computers with associated word processing, desktop publishing, database programs, and mapping.
· Works well with others from diverse backgrounds in a professional environment and can interact with the public and volunteers under sometimes challenging conditions
· Strong communication, motivation, and organizational skills.
· Commitment to creating equitable, inclusive, and culturally relevant outdoor learning experiences.
· Commitment to creating equitable and inclusive environment for all of AMC’s guests, employees, and constituents.
· Must be capable of safely traveling alone in the backcountry long distances carrying loads in excess of 40 pounds during all seasons and weather conditions.
· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history subject to a driving record check conducted by the AMC.
· Ability to perform and teach a variety of trail work activities. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
· The Appalachian Mountain Club has zero tolerance for child abuse or placing children in danger. The AMC requires all employees who work in a program or facility which serves children, disabled persons, or the elderly to have a criminal record check performed on their name.
Salary range: $60,000k per year

The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
