AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment to fabricate precision parts and components. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. The ideal candidate will have experience with various manual machines, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and drill presses to machine parts to specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders to determine machining requirements.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision measuring instruments.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and accessories for each job.
  • Monitor the machining process, making adjustments as necessary to maintain accuracy and quality.
  • Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve machining processes and product quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety standards and regulations.
  • Record and report production data, including job completion times and material usage.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina. Must be able to lift 50 or more pounds at a time.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in machining or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Manual Machinist.
  • Proficiency in operating manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other machining equipment.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, including speeds, feeds, and tool selection.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in a manufacturing environment.
