TIS surgeons specialize in orthopedic surgery, back and spine surgery, ENT procedures, plastic surgery, foot and ankle surgery, urological surgical care, sports medicine and other specialties.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the department manager, the lab technician oversees the activities of the clinical laboratory and ensures its smooth and efficient functioning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs advanced or specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques. May duplicate work of others to confirm test results. Re-evaluates methodology, makes recommended changes, and assists in test interpretation. Determines if further testing should be done on blood samples or if tests should be repeated.
  • Must be available to provide needed consultation either on-site, by telephone, or electronically.
  • Must have blood bank experience.
  • Initiates quality-control measures and monitors work quality for compliance with laboratory standards. Completes special projects like surveys, statistical reports, studies, and research.
  • Maintains records for federal, state and appropriate license accreditation. Monitors adherence to safety regulations.
  • Purchases supplies for the laboratory. Recommends procurement of new laboratory equipment and monitors maintenance/repair needs of existing equipment.
  • May cooperate with counterpart hospitals and other institutions for exchange of samples and information.
  • Identifies training needs and ensures testing personnel receive regular in-service training. Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel on an ongoing basis
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • ASCP Required 
  • CPR/ BLS certified Required

Key Skills:

  • Computer literate and the ability to learn new software, as needed
  • Good communication, organizational, interpersonal, time management and customer service skills required
  • Able to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and coordinate diverse activities. Demonstrated Supervisory ability
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in a life science or equivalent required

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 year of experience in a laboratory and blood bank environment with similar functions or experience in a non-waived specialty/subspecialty of service. (Moderate Complexity Lab)
