Position Objective:

The KC Health Technician ensures the health and emergency needs of campers and staff at Kidder Creek and is responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship, nurturing spiritual growth of campers through program activities in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Kidder Creek (“KC”) Health Technician is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.  

Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Treat staff and campers for illness and injuries while exercising sound professional judgment and follow through on any expressed health concerns. Advise the KC Director about all health concerns at camp.
  • Maintain a clear and constant communication and documentation with any staff or campers treated for medical conditions.
  • Enforce MHA’s Healthcare Services Policies and Procedures and Instructions for Reporting Workplace Injuries for staff.
  • Oversee completion and submission of Workers’ Compensation packet, Campers Insurance, and guest or participant’s Incident reports.
  • Keep MHA Health Services Administrator up to date and informed about any serious injuries or illness.
  • Document healthcare given to participants and staff in the Campers Log.
  • Transport campers to and from wilderness, adventure, river and camp activities.
  • Care for, organize and maintain all health care facilities and equipment, keeping accurate records and logbooks.
  • Oversee the registering, storage and dispensing of medications at appropriate times.
  • Conduct testing and reporting as needed for infectious diseases.
  • Keep regular office hours and be available “on call.”
  • Provide and nurture open and clear communication to parents of campers, and staff.
  • Evaluate inventory of procedure and equipment at end of summer.
  • Oversee the stocking and cleaning of infirmary and supplies.
  • Assist in departments as directed by supervisor, working alongside Summer Staff to facilitate high performance in each area of assignment.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and events.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas and equipment clean.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the broader camp programs of KC.
  • Actively engage and help build the summer staff community with your attitude, words and actions.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Health Support Staff

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Medical experience of RN or equivalent preferred.
  • Must meet the standards of the California State Camping Code (section 1596.866) for a Health Supervisor, RN, NP, PA, MD DO or certified Childcare Provider.
  • Must possess AED, First Aid and CPR (infant, child and adult) certifications.
  • Graduates of a Bachelor’s program have a broader base of preparation than an Associate of Arts program graduate.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older with a valid drivers license and clean driving record due to MH driver policy.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in areas of independent Health Services i.e., public health, school, home health, or camp Health Services, is preferred.
  • Experience and skill at teaching basic health/hygiene practices as preventative measure against spread of illness.
  • Experience in family practice, outpatient, emergency, and/or pediatrics preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary, junior and high school students preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advance medical training and administrative capabilities required.
  • Ability to utilize their professional judgement in stride with MHA’s Doctors Standing Orders to direct the healthcare team’s response to injuries, illnesses and emergencies.
  • Must possess strong “public relations” skills.
  • Must possess leadership skills as well as emotional and spiritual maturity.
  • Ability to be an empathic and effective leader.
  • Must be flexible with an ability to adjust and problem solve in challenging situations.
  • Able to engage in active listening.
  • A heart to serve wherever and whenever needed.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, we/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking long distances on varied terrain, swimming, climbing, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15 to over 60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children. Position also requires ability to hear, speak and see clearly in adverse conditions.

Additional Requirements/Skills:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older with a valid drivers license and clean driving record due to MH driver policy.
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
