Youth and Camp Coordinator

Who Are We:

The New Orleans JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness center and pool, a leader in New Orleans early childhood education, a fun-filled summer day camp, and so much more. It is a place for adults to take an exercise class, an art class, or a dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values but is welcome to everyone.

The mission of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center is to promote and ensure the well-being of our Jewish community and to instill an understanding of Judaism and its heritage by providing a center where all can enjoy, learn, experience, and share in quality activities in a Jewish environment.

The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing youth programs and activities. This role focuses on creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for young participants to learn, grow, and thrive. The position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of after-school enrichment Classes, Birthday Parties, Kids' Night Outs (Saturday Night Programs), Schools Out, and Mini Camps, and will also play a key role in camp during the summer. This position requires regular evening and weekend hours. 

What You'll Do:

Camp

  • Be an integral member of the camp admin team overseeing day-to-day operations, including scheduling, bunk placements, theme days, programmatic lessons, setup, and breakdown.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing the full JCamps daily schedule and supporting directors in staff orientation
  • Develop, plan, organize, and implement a range of age-appropriate and engaging programs for individuals, camp groups, and units.
  • Coordinate with JCC departments to ensure smooth communication and transitioning.
  • Assist in managing records, files, rosters, paperwork, and staff training  in Camp and Teen programs.
  • Assists Camp Director in family communication
  • Supports camp groups to ensure successful programming and smooth operations to enhance camper experience and integrate and ensure community integration
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors offering classes within the community.
  • Partner with the Director of Camp and Youth during the preparation and breakdown of camp and daily execution of plans during the camp season. 
  • Will provide building coverage when necessary and coordinate/supervise field trips and late stays. Be a resource and role model for campers and staff on camp-related issues.

Youth

  • Oversees and implements day-to-day operations and programmatic aspects of year-round youth programs including after-school classes, Kids Night Out,  Schools Out, and Mini Camps. This includes planning activities, supervising groups, and gathering supplies.
  • Develop and implement a youth program calendar in collaboration with Camp/Youth/Teen Directors.
  • Responsible for upkeep of all youth spaces, including supply ordering and set-up
  • Develop a Birthday Party program and serve as the liaison to families before and during the party.
  • Support for Enrichment programs and department specials by coordinating activities and programs and assisting in other youth-serving programs as needed
  • Attend and actively participate in community events, both internal and external, to promote our youth programs.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or  3 + years of significant leadership experience in camp/educational environment setting and in supervision of youth and staff.
  • CPR/First Aid certifications are required upon start.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, and develop realistic action plans.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, co-workers, parents, and children.
  • Experience with Google Suite
  • Positive, friendly, outgoing, and possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable, and articulate, and strong work ethic.
  • Exhibit professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Able to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers and engage in difficult conversations. 
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Role model Jewish values in programming, communication, and connection with members,  campers, families, and coworkers. 
  • Participates in professional development in the field. 
  • Represents the vision and philosophy of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center by demonstrating good customer service, a positive attitude, inclusive language, and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse clientele. 

Schedule:

Part-Time September through March

Full- Time April through August
Weekends as needed
