HEAVY TRUCK DRIVER

SUMMARY

The Heavy Truck Driver performs a variety of functions in the Roads and Grounds Department while primary duty is for transporting goods and materials safely from one place to another using heavy or tractor-trailer trucks with capacity of more than 1 ton.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Will drive heavy trucks.
  • Will perform a variety of functions in the Roads & Grounds Department including brush removal, tree removal using a variety of equipment.
  • Cuts brush and other vegetation and moves slash (wood debris) away from roads, fire trails and remaining trees.
  • Will perform repair and maintenance on roadways, parking lots and other such structures.
  • May grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
  • Snow and ice removal.
  • HAZMAT/ Used oil removal and transport with oil tanker trailer
  • May be required to assist in other sections of the R&G Department
  • Employees are required to drive company vehicles on a Federal Installation.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ related experience.
  • Must have a valid Class B CDL with no restrictions and air brake endorsements with a minimum of 3 year’s successful experience safely driving straight bodied trucks and/or tractor trailer combinations without accident. 
  • The ability to obtain and maintain military gate pass access is required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers and staff members.
