Summary

Supports the Volunteer Services Department and the organization in coordinating volunteers under the direction of the Director Volunteer Services.  Supports the Volunteer Services Department’s operations and goals and is responsible for the placement, on-going education, evaluation, supervision, retention, recognition, and regulatory management of direct patient/family support volunteers.

Essential Functions

  • Volunteer Management
    • Assigns and manages volunteers in direct patient/family categories.
    • Responsible for the recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteers in the team area.
    • Coordinates general volunteer training, continuing education, and support programs in the area.
    • Maintains an updated patient/volunteer assignment list.
    • Supervises and annually evaluates all area direct patient/family volunteers, including field competencies.
    • Continuous communication with Volunteer Information Coordinator and VSD team with regard to volunteer status.
    • Maintains productive and professional relations with social workers on assigned teams.
    • Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences (IDT) and special case conferences.
    • Ensures direct patient/family support volunteers comply with Medicare and Medicaid Services; N.C. Department of Facility Services and ACHC requirements when assigned to patient/family.
    • Ensures Volunteer POC is identified when volunteer is assigned; that volunteers are compliant with POC, and that required documentation supports VPOC.
    • Supervises volunteer team representatives.
    • Compliance with all regulations. 
    • Participates in VSD meetings and improvement processes.
    • Assists with the annual volunteer appreciation event.
    • Submits at least one article for each quarterly volunteer newsletter.
  • Teen Volunteer Program
    • Responsible for the recruitment, retention, and recognition of teen volunteers.
    • Coordinates volunteer teen training and on-going education.
    • Supervises and annually evaluates teen volunteers, including field competencies.
    • Fosters relationships with private and public schools, community churches and long-term communities to recruit volunteers and promote community awareness.
  • KidsPath™
    • Assigns and manages direct patient/family and special skills volunteers working with KidsPath patients.
    • Responsible for the recruitment, retention, and recognition of KidsPath volunteers.
    • Coordinates general volunteer training, continuing education and support programs as needed.
    • Maintains an updated patient/volunteer assignment list.
    • Supervises and annually evaluates all direct patient/family KidsPath volunteers, including field competencies.
  • Volunteer Newsletter
    • Responsible for the creation, publication, and distribution of the quarterly volunteer newsletter.
  • LDHH-Huntersville/Southminster
    • Coordinates and facilitates special volunteer events and projects, manages holiday programs for Hospice House.
    • Coordinates volunteer services from communities of faith and other special groups.
    • Handles all volunteer specific related duties of LDHH.
  • Volunteer Appreciation Event
    • Responsible for the development of the annual volunteer appreciation event, including program, volunteer and staff invitations, menu, and entertainment (as appropriate) with the help of the VSD team members.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of experience (such as Human Resources, Human Services or Recreation); or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience, preferably in Health Care, Hospice and/or Home Health Care.  Management experience in volunteer programs required.  Understanding of Hospice and/or Home Health Care policies and procedures preferred.
  • Certification in non-profit management preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
