Position Summary:

The individual will play a leading role developing analog and digital circuits for passive and active underground utility location products.  Our preferred candidate is an experienced electrical engineer with broad technical knowledge who can drive product development in a fast-paced environment.  The individual will contribute to the specification and design phases of the product development life cycle, manage the design and implementation of new and existing hardware development and enhancement efforts.  The individual will also assist in the isolation and resolution of hardware issues, lead root-cause analyses, communicate options for resolution and provide recommendations to customer-facing product issues.

 

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Performs all essential analog and digital circuit functions including architecture, design, debug, launch and maintenance for new and existing products
  • Leads or assists in hardware-firmware integration during the product development cycle
  • Drives product innovation through research and evaluation of new technologies while coordinating with product management
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to launch high quality, high reliability hardware solutions with an emphasis on design for manufacturability and tests.
  • Develop design documentation including requirements, performance, safety and test specifications
  • Provides support for customers and other departments within the company
  • Actively participates in Tempos new product introduction stage gate process while working with a cross functional group to achieve project objectives

 

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent

Required Skills:

  • Skilled in microprocessor and supporting digital circuit design and development
  • Skilled in analog design including instrumentation and low voltage power supplies
  • Experience in PCB design using Altium, Cadenced or Mentor Graphics
  • Strong circuit troubleshooting skills using a variety of laboratory test and measurement equipment
  • Experience with digital communication hardware and protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, etc.)
  • Knowledge of product compliance standards such as FCC, CE, EAC, WEEE, RoHS etc.
  • Strong communication and strong, logical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop strategies and plan accordingly to meet objectives
  • Ability to break objectives down into manageable tasks

 

Preferred / Desired Skills:

  • Experience with low frequency RF antennas, filters, and amplifiers
  • Experienced in FPGA design and development
  • Experience in developing embedded software solutions (Linux, RTOS)
  • Knowledge of related manufacturing and assembly processes to achieve DFM and DFT objectives
  • Ability to develop and work from a functional specification
  • Ability to work in a small team environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to produce results independently or as part of a team
