About us:

Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) is a global Jewish human rights organization that confronts anti-Semitism and hate, defends the safety of Israel and Jews worldwide, and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust through awareness, advocacy, justice, education, and its Museums of Tolerance. With a constituency of over 400,000 member families since its founding in 1977, the SWC has an international footprint through its Museums of Tolerance, Moriah Films, and the Digital Terrorism + Hate Project. 

Headquartered in Los Angeles, it maintains operations in New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Paris, Berlin, Jerusalem, and Buenos Aires. It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe and maintains relationships with the highest levels of governments throughout the world. 

In 1993, the Center opened the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles to worldwide acclaim. The Museum has served as the Center’s flagship educational arm, challenging visitors to confront bigotry and racism, and to understand the Holocaust in both historical and contemporary contexts. In addition, the Center developed Moriah Media to produce theatrical documentaries to educate global audiences. Moriah has produced 17 documentaries to date, two of which have received the Academy Award for best feature documentary, The Long Way Home and Genocide.

About the role:

The Museum of Tolerance is looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Tour Guides. In this role, you will lead engaging and educational tours across all permanent and special exhibitions, enhancing the experience for every visitor. Ideal candidates are passionate about history, human rights, and education and possess excellent communication skills.

  • This position is a fantastic entry point for those interested in a career in museums and cultural institutions, offering significant opportunities for growth and professional development within our organization.
  • The tour guide position offers a flexible schedule of 5 - 6 hour shifts that generally fall between the hours of 8:30 am and 4 pm, Sunday through Friday. 
  • A minimum availability of 3 shifts per week is required. 

This role is 100% onsite at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. 

Qualifications

About you:

You are deeply committed to ensuring the Museum of Tolerance remains meaningful to our visitors, strongly believe in the museum's mission, and uphold the values of human and civil rights as well as Holocaust education. Additionally, you exhibit a positive attitude, professional conduct, and exceptional customer service skills.  

Responsibilities:

  • Lead museum tours and assist museum visitors
  • Serve as a stationary guide in assigned locations
  • Communicate with Floor Coordinator team daily for assigned duties
  • Participate in all professional development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned by full-time Floor Coordinator Supervisor

Experience and Skills:

  • Comfortable in a dynamic, fast paced and highly flexible environment
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation skills with groups and general public
  • Ability and desire to work with students of all ages, especially high school students
  • Multilingual skills are a bonus 

Physical Requirements:

  • This job requires standing/walking for up to 3 hours multiple times per day
