Standard Solar, a Brookfield Renewable Company, is a leading independent power producer focused on acquiring, developing, funding and operating DG-scale solar energy and storage projects throughout the US. We are looking to expand our in-house legal department with an attorney who has experience with preparing and negotiating agreements for the acquisition and development of DG-scale solar energy projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide project-level legal leadership, recommendations, and support to the construction, engineering, operations, procurement and integrated project team(s)
- Providing legal support on day-to-day contracting efforts, including engineering and consulting services agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and equipment procurement contracts
- Advise General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, and senior leadership on risk management and contractual obligations; Reports directly to the Associate General Counsel
- Engage and manage outside counsel
- Play an integral role in the broader in-house legal team
- Interface directly with contractors, O&M providers, outside engineering firms, and vendors
- Ensure quality, clarity and consistency across documents
- Working with paralegals on corporate secretarial and governance matters
- Managing litigation matters through external counsel
- Assisting in developing and implementing legal policies, processes, and standards
- Collaborate with internal teams to support solar project development and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement effective legal strategies to mitigate risks and protect the company's interests.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory changes in the energy sector.
- Provide training and guidance to other team members on legal matters related to M&A and the energy industry.
Minimum Education, Skills and Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor from accredited law school
- At least 1+ of experience in a law firm or in-house to renewable energy transactions, preferably in solar
- Willingness to learn about various contracts and negotiations including EPC, REC, MSA, and others
- Ability to work closely with cross-functional internal teams and manage several transactions simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and legal leadership skills
