RIGGER

CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD

Riggers operate a vast majority of cranes throughout the shipyard in addition to a wide assortment of forklifts with various capacities. They are also responsible for the operation of the shipyard’s tugboats - moving ships between dry docks and piers, and mooring ships while at the piers and outfitting berths. Riggers handle every component of a ship - from pipes and valves to pumps, motors, and electronic equipment, to the largest machinery and structural components - riggers can lift, manipulate, and set them into place. To accomplish this, riggers should be able to calculate the weight and center of gravity of the item being handled, determine the capacity of the lift points, and calculate the angle imposed on the handling gear to select the most appropriate gear for the task at hand. Riggers erect, maintain, and dismantle various types of scaffolding throughout the shipyard. Each type is selected to best suit the physical location and intended to provide a safe working platform for personnel where none existed. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•    Use cranes and lifts to help transport heavy equipment, machinery, or large heavy cargo around the shipyard.
•    Align, level, and anchor machinery.
•    Calculate load weights and plan lifting procedures accordingly. 
•    Install and maintain various types of ventilation equipment onboard ships to prevent dangerous atmospheres from developing.
•    Document and report any incidents or equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
•    Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and maintain a clean and organized worksite.
•    Purchasing, maintaining, and issuing the myriad assortment of tools used in the shipbuilding business.
•    Ensure completed work orders are well documented and filed correctly.
•    Coordinate with site managers and other personnel to plan and execute lifting operations.
•    Perform regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
•    Other duties as identified and assigned.
 

 Required Education and Experience
•    Minimum one year of experience as a Rigger.
•    High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
•    Knowledge of rigging techniques and equipment.
•    Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
•    Experience with lifting software and equipment inspection tools.
•    Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in rigging and lifting operations.
•    Strong understanding of load calculations and weight distribution principles.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
•    Forklift certification.

Supervisory Responsibilities
As Required.

Security Responsibilities
•    Eligible and obtain (if required) a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
•    Must comply with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures. 
•    May be responsible for proper classification and marking of all information and materials. Employee shall not divulge any information, or afford access to other employees not having a need-to-know authorization. Shall not divulge information outside the company without management approval. Will be required to execute company non-disclosure agreement prior to access to any controlled information. 

Language Skills
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex words and technical documents/diagrams.  Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing and work effectively as part of a team.

Reasoning Ability and Mathematical Skills 
Must be able to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to calculate figures and numbers, and percentages and be able to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, blueprints, and drawings.
