DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CUSTOMER INTERACTION
- Provide excellent customer service on all deliveries
- Always be professional in your contact with customers and their employees, as well as vendors Know how to handle an upset or angry customer
DELIVERY
- Be able to sit/drive and accomplish all motions used in driving a large truck for extended periods - trip lengths vary greatly, but up to 6 hours per day will be spent behind the wheel
- Possess a current driver’s license, clean Motor Vehicle Record, and be approved by our insurance - If approval is withdrawn for any reason, employment with Ashby Lumber may cease
- Monitor and ensure vehicles are loaded properly and accurately
- Be familiar with surrounding area and be able to read a map/guide
- Have a positive and upbeat attitude, even in heavy traffic and unusual driving conditions
- Assist and/or oversee the loading and/or unloading of products
- Be able to deal with a fast-paced environment, subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity
- Remain in communication with Dispatch as needed throughout the day
- Inform Dispatch of any problems that arise at the delivery site
SAFETY
- Have excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws.
- Complete Driver’s Vehicle Inspection daily.
- Pass random DOT alcohol/drug screening.
- Operate vehicle safely in a manner consistent with Ashby Lumber Driving Policy.
- Report all accidents in accordance with Ashby Lumber Driver Accident Reporting Policy.
- Attend safety meeting monthly.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) based on state location
- Proper Class CDL with valid Air Brake and HazMat Endorsement (as required)
- ABC and OSHA approved Powered Industrial Truck certification (company training provided)
- A good driving record
- Current & valid medical card (required in some states for non CDL)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills
- Possession of strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and accept direction on given assignments
- Able to work in a cooperative manner as part of a team
- Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public
- Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health/safety and company policies and procedures
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sit/drive up to 6-7 hours per day
- Must be able to lift/carry 100 lbs. occasionally
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs. repetitively
- Must be able to push/pull 50-250 lbs.
- Vertical and horizontal reaching is required
- All mobility motions are required (standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing)
- Full range of motion and physical activity occurring randomly for 8-10 hours per day
