Description

The First Year Experience Librarian plays a leading role in Iona Library’s efforts in providing information literacy instruction and the delivery of library services to the Iona community. The First Year Experience Librarian works closely with the library team and university community to develop library services and programs that support student success in their first year and beyond. This position’s duties also include research support services, collection development, instruction, and supporting other library services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in developing the Information Literacy instruction plan for first-year courses and conducting in-person, hybrid and virtual library instruction sessions.
  • Work closely with faculty, academic success areas and librarians in developing programs for Student Success support programs.
  • Develop and conduct information literacy workshops incorporating innovative technologies and techniques for instruction.
  • Apply information literacy instruction goals tied to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy.
  • Participate in assessing library information literacy instruction.
  • Serve as Library liaison to select academic departments, providing targeted library and information literacy support.
  • Provide research assistance to the community in a variety of formats (i.e., virtual, email, in-person, phone, etc.).
  • Create and maintain research guides, videos, tutorials, and other instructional materials.
  • Stay abreast of standards, best practices, technologies and trends in first-year experience support.
  • Collaborate on creation and assessment of online learning objects, such as LibWizard quizzes, videos, and information literacy exercises.
  • Participate in the development of digital and print collections by recommending new purchases and assessing existing collections.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as required.

 

Qualifications

Job Qualifications: 

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education and Experience:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science or equivalent by the time of hire.
  • 1 or more years of experience in research support and instruction in an educational setting. Part-time and pre-professional experience can count towards this experience.

 

Skills:

  • Experience with instruction, both online and in-person.
  • Experience with providing research support services, both in-person and online.
  • Familiarity or willingness to engage with trends, technologies and services in academic libraries to support student success in first year students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting research and information literacy in an academic library.
  • Experience developing and managing and assessing information literacy curricula.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse groups and departments to promote student success.
