Pay Grade: $18.50/hour

General Statement:                  
The Park Ranger Assistant provides support to Park Rangers by assisting in the management of the parking lots, providing a safety & security presence at a variety of ZooLights event venues, patrolling event areas, monitoring guest security barriers, reuniting lost guests, answering guest questions, and providing overall exceptional customer service to guests and staff. 

  

Duration of Season & Hours:

Our main ZooLights season is from November to mid-January.  Your season could possibly extend through April.

  • October: Training during this month include shifts from 9am – 1pm, 1pm – 5pm (Weekends only)

or 4pm – 11pm, (various evenings).

  • From November 1 through January 18, shifts are 3:45 p.m. – 11pm, with occasional weekend shifts from 9am – 1pm.  Based on your availability, your hours should increase once ZooLights starts.
  • Qualified Ranger Assistants may be invited to stay on through April with evening and primarily weekend shifts available. Weekday shifts may also be available during March Spring Break.


Essential Duties:  

  1. Provides quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive, and professional) working attitude and appearance. 
  2. Assists Park Rangers in parking lot management by directing guests to parking spaces and patrolling lots as assigned.
  3. Provides a safety & security presence throughout the ZooLights footprint, including but not limited to monitoring firepits, monitoring play equipment, providing alcohol control, and monitoring private events while always demonstrating exceptional customer service.
  4. Helps control access points to group events by watching barriers, as well as provides event information to guests.   
  5. Responds to reports of missing guests and reunites guests with appropriate parties.
  6. Provides general information to guests and answers guests’ questions.
  7. Monitors entry and exit points to ensure guests do not leave the Zoo with alcohol or enter the Zoo without paid admission.
  8. Lifts and installs standard propane tanks, crowd barricades, traffic control equipment, and other equipment.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Customer service experience and training preferred.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with guests and staff.
  4. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Availability to workdays and/or evenings any day during the week as well as the evenings of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve.
  6. Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
  7. Ability to lift 40 lbs., stand up to 5 hours at a time, and be capable of walking at least 2.5 miles (ZooLights footprint) a shift.
  8. Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
