Position Summary:
The Director of Legal and Permanency Services provides strategic oversight and leadership to the Court Unit within the agency. This position requires a licensed attorney with extensive experience in child welfare law, though the role is non-practicing. The Legal and Permanency Manager ensures that all legal and court-related requirements are met and that the unit functions efficiently and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards. This role supervises the Court Unit, including the Permanency Manager, who oversees permanency planning and adoptions. The Director of Legal and Permanency Services, plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the timely and appropriate progression of cases toward permanency for children and families and the smooth progression of all court related matters.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide direct supervision to the Court Unit staff, including the Permanency Manager and any associated team members.
- Oversee and ensure timely compliance with all court-related requirements, deadlines, and documentation for dependency, permanency, and adoption cases.
- Review, recommend, and obtain appropriate legal documentation in collaboration with case managers and supervisors to support permanency efforts.
- Troubleshoot complex legal and case issues, providing expert guidance and resolution strategies.
- Monitor the overall performance and operations of the Court Unit to ensure effective coordination with internal departments and external partners, including the courts, legal providers, and community stakeholders.
- Serve as the agency’s subject matter expert on legal and permanency processes, ensuring staff are well-informed and supported in achieving timely permanency outcomes.
- Foster strong professional relationships with judicial stakeholders, attorneys, guardians ad litem, and partner agencies to ensure effective case coordination and advocacy.
- Provide training and coaching to staff on court procedures, documentation standards, and permanency planning best practices.
- Prepare reports and track metrics related to court performance, hearings, and permanency progress.
