POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Youth Development Director, a Summer Camp Counselor for the YMCA of Coastal Carolina provides direction and supervision of all group activities while implementing best practices. Counselors provide a fun, engaging, and quality experience to children, with intentional focus on YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the upmost of importance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Models the YMCA Mission and Values daily.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and or consistent with the Y’s values.
- Supervises the children and all activities while maintaining appropriate child to staff ratios.
- Builds personal and meaningful relationships with participants; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Always engages fully with all children.
- Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
- Maintain program site and equipment.
- Wear provided staff shirt and name tag while working.
- Maintain required program records. i.e. sign in/sign out rosters.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Ability to clean and organize within the daily operations of the program.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
