Description

Responsibilities: The Clinical Educator will be responsible to the Department of Nursing Chair and the Nursing Faculty in the individual nursing course(s) for which they are assigned.

  • Clinical Educators provide clinical instruction to a group or groups of nursing students in acute or community settings.  This will involve 15-18 face-to-face contact hours per week with students in clinical settings.  Clinical experiences drive the classroom discussions; therefore, class and clinical are viewed as seamless. Limits on numbers of students are imposed by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
  • Attend orientation/mentoring sessions at Grand View and clinical sites as appropriate.
  • Collaborate on a weekly basis with the course faculty for the opportunity to share course/clinical objectives, provide anecdotal notes on students, discuss progress, etc.
  • Attend monthly course meetings.
  • Attend a minimum of seven course classes, including the first course and then as determined by course faculty.
  • Negotiate between Course Faculty and Clinical Educator regarding responsibilities including clinical reflection preparation/evaluation paperwork and course assignments.
  • Assist in evaluation of students.
  • Hold 5 office hours per week.
  • Meet with prospective students.
  • Advisor for students beginning second year of employment (begin with 5 in the first semester; 5-10 thereafter).
  • Attend Nursing Faculty Meetings (including assessment and forum).  Serve as member of a Nursing Committee
  • Attend University Faculty meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Arts in Nursing
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, preferred
  • Current Iowa License 
    • Individuals who are currently licensed in another state and recognized for licensure in Iowa, pursuant to the nurse licensure compact contained in Iowa code.
  • Minimum of two - years of clinical experience.
