Responsibilities: The Clinical Educator will be responsible to the Department of Nursing Chair and the Nursing Faculty in the individual nursing course(s) for which they are assigned.
- Clinical Educators provide clinical instruction to a group or groups of nursing students in acute or community settings. This will involve 15-18 face-to-face contact hours per week with students in clinical settings. Clinical experiences drive the classroom discussions; therefore, class and clinical are viewed as seamless. Limits on numbers of students are imposed by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
- Attend orientation/mentoring sessions at Grand View and clinical sites as appropriate.
- Collaborate on a weekly basis with the course faculty for the opportunity to share course/clinical objectives, provide anecdotal notes on students, discuss progress, etc.
- Attend monthly course meetings.
- Attend a minimum of seven course classes, including the first course and then as determined by course faculty.
- Negotiate between Course Faculty and Clinical Educator regarding responsibilities including clinical reflection preparation/evaluation paperwork and course assignments.
- Assist in evaluation of students.
- Hold 5 office hours per week.
- Meet with prospective students.
- Advisor for students beginning second year of employment (begin with 5 in the first semester; 5-10 thereafter).
- Attend Nursing Faculty Meetings (including assessment and forum). Serve as member of a Nursing Committee
- Attend University Faculty meetings.
