Washington College seeks an experienced and visionary Library Director to lead the Clifton M. Miller Library, and to provide leadership, planning and administration in support of the instructional programs and faculty of Washington College. The Library Director provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight to ensure the library’s vitality and its integral role in campus life. This position is responsible for guiding library staff, managing budgets, and developing innovative programs that support academic excellence. Through visionary planning and collaborative leadership, the Library Director advances the library’s mission and enhances its contributions to the institution.
In collaboration with the Provost’s Office, the Library Director will foster a culture of learning, access, and inclusivity, aligning library initiatives with the evolving needs of Washington College’s instructional programs. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for enhancing student success, a commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to build strong campus and community partnerships. This role requires expertise in collection management and archival systems, and experience with library vendors to ensure the effective stewardship of resources and services. Responsibilities:
· Spearheads all aspects of library administration including long-term planning, budget management, team leadership, and assessment of library resources and services.
· Develops and implements the strategic vision and policies, while advocating for the library’s role in academic initiatives that enhance student learning and experience.
· Recruits, mentors, and retains outstanding talent, fostering a supportive environment for professional growth.
· Leads a dedicated team with innovative approaches to library resources and services, providing mentorship through the cultivation of a supportive environment for professional growth.
· Oversees a collection development plan that focuses on student achievement, faculty support, academic excellence, and enhances the college’s curriculum.
· Explores new models of scholarly communication with the potential to provide cost-saving access to digital repositories of academic publications and creative works.
· Strengthens the academic community by developing equitable resources, services, and programs aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
· Cultivates a positive, productive working environment by building trust, empowering staff, inspiring excellence, and leading by example.
· Prepares statistical reports for the College, library organizations, and external agencies.
· Engages with and contributes to local, state, regional, and national professional associations and consortiums.
