Employee Safety and Security Specialist

Richelieu Foods, Inc., a Freiberger Group Company, is a leading supplier of high-quality food products to the private label and food service industries. We have an immediate opening for an Employee Safety and Security Specialist in our Wheeling manufacturing plant. The Safety Specialist is responsible for the coordination, planning, and execution of our plant safety initiatives. They will also provide guidance and direction for the plant’s safety management program ensuring that we maintain a safe working environment for our employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Influence behavior and inspire commitment on the part of all employees to comply with Richelieu Foods safety and health standards and work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Safety Program expectations and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Identify and inform plant leadership of compliance issues, safety risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct frequent safety observation audits and root cause analysis.
  • Facilitate incident investigation processes including a review of all injury / illness / non-injury incident investigation reports.
  • Lead tracking and assessment of safety and environmental requirements and maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics reporting to onsite management teams.
  • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and support the Worker's Compensation Claims process as required by the State of Illinois and our Workers Compensation carrier.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions. Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomic considerations, in all such efforts.
  • Develop, facilitate, and assess effectiveness of plant safety training programs including new hire safety orientation, standard work training for hourly positions, and specialized safety training as required.
  • Collaborate with site safety leaders across the Company in the development and implementation of safety focused policies, programs, and objectives.
  • Review all EHS programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies on a continuous basis and revise as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and administration of company safety incentive programs, including the evaluation of the effectiveness of such programs in positively changing employee behavior.
  • Develop and manage site reviews and audits related to safety and environmental.
  • Manage the accident and incident investigation process.
  • Monitor resources used to ensure compliance with waste management and recycling policies.
  • Analyze environmental monitoring data and prepare compliance reports and permits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must be an effective communicator, able to work both independently, and in teams of various sizes
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management principles
  • Strong ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines with detailed focus on results
  • Demonstrated effective interaction with regulatory agencies and senior business leaders
  • Proficient in various risk assessment and root cause analysis methods
  • Demonstrated ability to influence management, teams and individuals across multiple functions
  • Advanced Microsoft Office knowledge; advanced in Excel

EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field
  • 1 - 3 years of safety leadership experience
  • Manufacturing experience desired

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
