Job Title: Director of Brand Marketing

Location: Portland, OR or Remote

Department: Marketing

Reports to: Chief Marketing Officer

We’ve already built something special.

Now it’s time to tell the world - louder, bigger, bolder!

As Director of Brand Marketing, you’ll take what Portland Leather already is (a fast-growing, values-led brand with fiercely loyal customers and a product that over delivers) and make sure the world can’t miss it! This role is for someone ready to lead the charge across PR, influencer programs, partnerships, affiliate growth, and brand experiences - driving reach, relevance, and retention at scale. You’ll work closely with other directors, reporting directly to the CMO, as part of an efficient, and driven marketing team.

At Portland Leather Goods, we’re not chasing trends - we’re building a lasting brand with real values, real products, and real community. You’ll be part of a marketing team that moves fast, thinks long-term, and prioritizes substance over flash. You’ll have the tools, trust, and runway to make a meaningful impact while working alongside people who genuinely care about doing things right. If you’re motivated, strategic, and ready to help more people discover what we’ve built - we’d love to meet you!

Portland Leather Goods is in a new season of explosive growth. This is a rare opportunity to step into a Director-level role where your impact will be felt from day one. If you know how to turn genuine love for a brand into press, partnerships, and social proof that fuels momentum - then the challenge is clear:

Step up. Amplify the story. Make Portland Leather impossible to ignore!

Key Responsibilities:

Lead brand marketing strategy

  • Own and execute marketing strategy across PR, influencer, affiliate, sponsorship, and partnership channels.
  • Align all efforts with business goals, staying grounded in what makes our brand loved today - and expanding that emotional connection.

Reallocate and optimize the marketing budget

  • Shift dollars from traditional paid media to earned and organic growth channels with strong ROI.
  • Own channel budgets and deploy spending for maximum impact.

Run a smart, strategic PR engine

  • Manage media relationships, press outreach, and agency partnerships.
  • Consistently secure meaningful coverage that reinforces our reputation and values.

Grow influencer and creator relationships

  • Identify and collaborate with creators who already feel aligned with our brand (or should).
  • Ensure campaigns support both awareness and performance metrics, while staying true to brand voice.

Scale affiliate marketing

  • Build a well-managed, performance-focused affiliate program that supports DTC growth and long-term LTV.
  • Partner with Ecommerce to track results and optimize over time.

Pursue high-value brand partnerships and sponsorships

  • Identify and negotiate strategic collaborations and sponsorships that get us in front of new audiences in the right way.
  • Focus on quality over quantity - what actually moves the needle.

Lead brand events and experiential marketing

  • Bring the brand to live through meaningful activations and experiences that deepen community and drive word of mouth.
  • Think customer-first - whether it’s a local meetup or a national pop-up.

Drive performance and accountability

  • Set KPIs across all brand marketing activities.
  • Monitor results, adjust fast, and keep improving.

Collaborate cross-functionally

  • Work with internal partners across creative, digital, product, operations, and merchandising to align efforts and execute seamlessly.

Stay plugged in

  • Track emerging trends, platforms, and cultural shifts - and bring fresh, relevant ideas to the table.

Qualifications

What You Bring:

  • Significant experience owning and scaling brand marketing initiatives - title and time matter less than what you’ve built.
  • Proven success running PR, influencer, affiliate, and partnership programs that drive both reach and results.
  • A sharp sense of what drives trust, word-of-mouth, and cultural relevance today.
  • A proactive, resourceful mindset and the ability to operate both strategically and tactically.
  • Experience managing budgets, tracking performance, and optimizing for impact.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to lead cross-functional execution.
  • Cultural awareness and an intuitive grasp of what resonates with real people.

What we can offer you!

  • Salary: $140,000/year
  • Robust benefits package including:
    • Health, dental & vision insurance (75% cost of base plan covered by PLG for team members)
    • Life insurance (paid for by PLG + option to buy additional)
    • Voluntary plans include pet insurance, accident insurance, long-term disability
  • 401(k) after 1 year with 4% company match
  • Holidays (including 1 floating holiday), vacation & sick time
  • Store discount
  • Dynamic & collaborative team environment

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

We have come a long way since the garage days! Portland Leather Goods was established in early 2016 by our founder Curtis Matsko. Before Portland Leather Goods, you couldn’t find a simply designed, affordable bag made from high quality full–grain leather. Even if the aesthetic and the price were right, the leather felt and looked cheap, or worse, it wasn’t even real leather! In order to get a beautiful full grain leather bag, you had to spend a fortune. We’re proud to make a leather bag with classic appeal at a price everyone can feel good about.

Portland Leather Goods is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members. Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
