SUPERVISOR:          Street and Alley Foreman, Supervisor and Manager

SALARY:                    $36,135 to $43,362 Annually

 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION                                                                                                  

Operate maintenance equipment in support of a variety of street maintenance and construction activities including, but not limited to, hauling material, sweeping, mowing, plowing, patching, shoveling asphalt and dirt to perform skilled maintenance tasks.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                              

  • Operate maintenance equipment such as dump trucks, asphalt oil trucks, compressors, rollers, snowplows, sweepers, and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations involving streets and alleys.  Operate equipment needed for each assigned project; pick up and deliver equipment from construction sites.  Load trucks with mineral aggregate and other material; shovel dirt and asphalt.
  • Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Roll asphalt; maintain asphalt and concrete road surfaces.
  • Maintain medians and right-of-way areas for the City of Cheyenne.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Maintain production logs and records.
  • Maintain and clean storm sewer catch basins and ditches.
  • Remove ice and snow from roadways as appropriate, including working at night, weekends, and holidays in inclement weather conditions.
  • On an as-needed basis, respond to after hours, holidays and weekend events relating to emergency street repairs, hazardous material spills, emergency clean-up, and other weather-related events.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                               

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Rotate with other supervisors and foremen to carry the on-call phone for 24 hours a day, seven days per week; respond to calls by the 911 center, and One Call of Wyoming for events related to emergency street repair, hazardous spills, emergency clean-up of debris and other weather-related events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES                                                                            

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of heavy power-driven equipment.
  • Knowledge of general construction and maintenance work practices, methods, and materials.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in heavy equipment operations.
  • Advance knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Skills to operate power-driven equipment used in the construction and maintenance of streets.
  • Skills to perform a variety of skilled construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB                                                                               

Required:

High school diploma or GED

Preferred:

Wyoming Class B Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain a Wyoming Class B Commercial’s Driver’s License within six months of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS                                                                                         

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain the physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

 

Working Environment:

Construction-site environment.  Travel to different sites.  Exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, and toxic materials.  Work in extreme weather conditions and at all hours.  Work in confined spaces.
