What do Camp Counselors do?
The Camp Counselor is responsible for a group of children ages 3-14 years of age. Responsibilities with this position include but are not limited to supervision of children, program development, staff development, general maintenance, safety, parent involvement, and communication.
- Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing camp programs in accordance with guidelines from American Camping Association (ACA)
- Provide quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive)
- Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive
- Track attendance, ensure a valid membership is on file, and children are released to caretakers
- Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs
- Assist in supervising activities and lesson plans
- Ensure the program is delivering Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards
- Set up and cleanup of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc
- Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with children and families
