The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) is looking for an experienced and results-oriented Senior Business Analyst who can partner closely with cross-functional teams to execute and deliver AMC’s strategic priorities. This role is pivotal in AMC’s digital transformation, ensuring successful delivery of our shared initiatives to deliver on our mission to get more people outdoors.

Reporting to the Director of Technology Operations, the Senior Business Analyst is a solution-oriented problem solver with both technical and functional business acumen and an excellent communicator and collaborator. They are responsible for gathering, clarifying, and documenting functional business requirements from stakeholders as well as translating them into actionable technical development requirements including user stories, process diagrams, and functional design documents.  This role ultimately owns the functional business requirements and is responsible for ensuring these are realized in the final technology solutions. You will play an important role in a new function, bringing to the table strong analytical skills with a passion for championing users and functional team needs.

This is a hybrid role, must be within driving distance to our Boston Office 

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING AT AMC 
 

Business Analysis  

  • Solicit and gather organization’s use cases 

  • Conduct interviews, workshops, and research to understand business processes and pain points. 

  • Translate business/functional requirements into detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria. 

  • Identify and document (user flows and wireframes) product requirements for features and functionality along with key functional stakeholders.  

  • Partner with technologists and developers to ensure solutions meet business needs and requirements 

  • Lead cross-functional teams in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and testing of new system functionality  

 

Project Management  

  • Provide regular updates and reports on project progress, ensuring transparency and alignment with stakeholders' expectations. 

  • Work with an agile delivery approach across technology delivery teams 

  • Support delivery teams in prioritization, planning and stakeholder communication 

  • Lead on technology project delivery, as needed, to model best practice and address critical resource needs.  

  • Facilitate project retrospectives and cross team alignment sessions as needed. 

 

Documentation and Communication  

  • Act as the liaison between business stakeholders and technology delivery teams, ensuring a shared understanding of priorities and goals. 

  • Track and communicate project status, risks, and emergent issues. 

  • Organize, publish, and maintain project and process details to be readily accessible to varying stakeholders, with minimal overhead. 

  • Help identify systemic issues, process problems, and other risks and work with appropriate colleagues to find resolutions. Document lessons learned. 

  • Communicate effectively and drive a free flow of information with and among stakeholders on all matters. 

Qualifications

WHAT AMC IS LOOKING FOR 

 

  • 5+ years of experience in business analysis and/or project management. Experience working on complex, enterprise technical projects is required. Non-profit experience a plus. 

  • Demonstrated experience in business analysis and successful project leadership. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex technical information in a clear manner to peers, stakeholders, and senior leaders.  

  • Experience with enterprise SaaS business systems. Experience with Salesforce is required. Salesforce Experience Cloud, Marketing Cloud, and Service Cloud Experience preferred. Reservation management, event management, eCommerce, and POS systems is a plus. 

  • Experience crafting wireframes and mockups to help guide product discovery and development.  

  • Experience writing technical documentation such as data dictionaries and sequence mapping. 

  • Solid technical background. Understanding and/or experience in software development preferred. 

  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies, with hands-on experience using Jira and the Atlassian suite for project tracking and management. 

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Able to build consensus on priority, scope and keep the initiative teams focused on realistic timelines to get things out the door, shipping (safely) first 

  • Able to effectively facilitate a technical discussion and wrangle if things are going off-topic.

What AMC Can Offer You

Salary range:  $88,796 - $119,881 

We are committed to fair compensation practices. The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, competencies, and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
