Tends one or more machine tools, special purpose machines, or industrial robots to machine metal work pieces to specifications on a production basis by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Sets up machine to machine castings to specifications.
- Loads proper program into machine for specified operation of casting.
- Applies proper jaws or fixture to chuck to hold castings or metal work pieces.
- Lifts castings manually, or using hoist and secures workpiece in fixture or loads automatic feeding device.
- Checks part for excentricity.
- Starts machine, engages feeds, and observes operation.
- Inspects and measures machine pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
- Moves machine controls and guides to adjust machine. Adjusts machine using machine offsets.
- Replaces worn machine accessories such as tools, bars, or inserts.
- Files, sands, or shapes machined parts.
- Cleans parts as needed.
- Inspects parts for porosity or foreign matter.
- Deburrs all sharp edges.
- Cleans machines parts.
- Adds coolant, grease, and oil to machine as needed.
