Description

Responsible for the operation of electric induction furnaces which includes melting and pouring of metal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Weighs specified amounts of metal and charges metal into furnace by hand.

Regulates flow of water and electricity to control furnace temperature.

Slags molten metal and reads metal temperatures.

Pours metal into ladle sometimes using a hoist.

Reads and records melt operations.

Identifies casting flaws such as miss-run, hot tears, scaling, etc. and determines procedures required to correct the defect.

Keeps metals separated into various categories and determines correctness of alloys.

Operates a Spectro graph for chemical analysis, as needed.

Relines furnaces with new crucibles, as needed.

Directs melt crew during pouring.

Responsible for the melt crew safety.

Handles daily routine maintenance on equipment.

Maintains high standards in housekeeping and safety.

The job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent, preferred.  Previous experience with induction melting is a plus.  

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract using whole numbers.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
