Role Description

The Technical Services Chemist reports to the Thatcher Company Technical Services Laboratory Manager. This position is responsible for performing routine analytical chemistry testing of manufacturing components and finished products in the Thatcher Company Technical Services Laboratory. This role supports Thatcher’s Williamson, NY 2nd shift operations, with a general work schedule of 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (with flexibility as needed).

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform routine analytical testing (SOP-based) on batches of finished products and manufacturing components.
  • Prepare written summaries of batch testing results.
  • Provide technical support during the development of new testing methods and procedures.
  • Assist manufacturing staff with production issues through batch testing and lab batch preparation.
  • Perform QA/QC inspections of packaged, non-bulk products.
  • Prepare written QA documents such as Certificates of Analysis or Certificates of Compliance.
  • Perform routine calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform routine preparation and certification of standardized reagents.
  • Serve as a member of site Emergency Response Team (ERT), responding to emergency situations involving release or potential release of hazardous substances.
  • Package and prepare small chemical shipments of Hazardous Materials, including completion and certification of DOT compliance paperwork.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
  • Must be capable of completing the necessary training and medical clearances to serve as a member of the site Emergency Response Team (ERT), as well as prepare DOT compliant Hazardous Material shipments.
  • Demonstrated communication, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform routine chemistry calculations.
  • Proficient with MS Office Applications

Experience/Education/Licenses

  • BS Chemistry (or equivalent) Specialization in Analytical chemistry preferred.
  • Experience-based knowledge of chemical principles, chemical manufacturing processes, and chemical plant operations are a plus.
