As a secondary staff person, the Junior Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety, well-being and supervision of the campers. All assigned duties will be performed in a manner reflecting the YMCA of the USA character development traits of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.

What You’ll Do

 

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers in the group and camp-wide and ensure a risk-free environment for all.  
  • Assist with the implementation of activities in accordance with the camp schedule.  
  • Maintain positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff. 
  • Organize and maintain camp equipment, supplies, and property.  
  • Actively participate in all aspects of the day camp schedule as assigned.  
  • Maintain camp records including, but not limited to accident & incident reports, sign in/out sheets, attendance documents.  
  • Maintain expectations of the YMCA guidelines for requirements/ratio and help others do the same.  
  • Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

What You'll Need

 

  • Must be at least 15–17 years old 
  • Prior experience working with children, preferred 
  • DHS licensed sites require staff who are 15-17 years old to be enrolled in and/or have completed Early Childhood Education classes.  
  • Ability to effectively use technology for programmatic 
  • Attend all required pre-camp and camp season training and meetings as scheduled
