Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is the global organization’s presence in the United States. We engage people in the U.S. to fight injustice all around the world, while we also work to protect people’s human rights here in the U.S. Amnesty International USA has more than one million members and activists in all 50 states, who are part of a larger global movement of 10 million people in 150 countries. We are a democratically governed, grassroots membership organization, which means that our members vote on key policy issues and elect our Board of Directors. Some of our members are experts on specific human rights issues, parts of the world, or advocacy areas, and they serve as volunteer leaders. Others are volunteer leaders of local or student groups in towns, universities, states, or regions of the country. Amnesty International USA’s elected Board members, staff, and members work together to lead the organization.

 

Amnesty International USA is seeking a talented Creative Coordinator for a 2-year fixed-term position. The Creative Coordinator will play a vital role in our visual storytelling team, transforming concepts and ideas into impactful visual representations across print and electronic media. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical proficiency in current photo, video and design software.  

 

The Creative Coordinator should have the ability to translate written or spoken ideas into compelling visual content that resonates with our audience. They will demonstrate a thorough understanding of branding and marketing principles and be adept at interacting with various stakeholders. The Creative Coordinator will manage a variety of projects and tasks, ensuring all activities are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. 

 

This role reports to the Senior Manager of Creative and Brand Identity and is a 2-year fixed term, union role.  

 

Essential Responsibilities  

  • Assist in developing and maintaining AIUSA's visual brand identity across various communication channels, ensuring consistency and resonance with our organizational values and goals 

  • Support the planning and execution of multimedia projects, including photography, videography, and design, under the guidance of the Senior Manager 

  • Collaborate with internal teams across the organization, and external partners, to contribute creative ideas and solutions to enhance our storytelling efforts and amplify our impact 

  • Conduct research and gather visual assets from wires like Getty or AP to enrich our content and strengthen our narratives 

  • Aid in ensuring compliance with visual copyright regulations and assist in managing the distribution of visual content effectively 

  • Possibly participate in research missions and global delegations as needed, using creative skills to visually document human rights issues and advocacy efforts 

  • Work closely with the communications team to produce engaging multimedia content tailored to diverse audiences and communication channels 

  • Assist in analyzing performance metrics and audience insights to optimize content and maximize its impact across various platforms 

  • Contribute to efforts to integrate IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility)  principles into our visual content, ensuring representation and inclusivity 

  • Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in digital communication and visual storytelling to support AIUSA's strategic objectives 

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners, demonstrating adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence in all tasks 

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

  • Proficiency in multimedia production software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, with experience in photography, videography, and design 

  • Familiarity with industry best practices in visual content creation and a passion for storytelling through different mediums 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively 

  • Creative flair and a willingness to contribute innovative ideas and solutions to projects and initiatives 

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders 

  • A commitment to human rights and social justice issues, with a desire to contribute meaningfully to AIUSA's mission through your creative work 

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities for the organization 

 

Education and Experience 

  • B.A degree, with experience in design, photography, video production, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years' work experience 

  • Experience with cross-functional teams 

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite 

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing at a desk and working on a computer 

  • Occasional lifting and moving of heavy equipment 

 

Travel Requirements, Weeknight or Weekend Work 

  • Domestic and/or international travel is required (15%) 

  • Some weeknight/weekend work is required
