Shifts:

Full-Time Nights: 10:45pm-7:15am 

Full- Time Evenings: 2:45- 11:15pm

Part-Time Nights: 10:45pm- 7:15am

 

Job Summary:

The nursing shift supervisor coordinates and directs clinical and administrative aspects of nursing services on a designated shift(s). The nursing shift supervisor is responsible for competent practice as it relates to clinical nursing, leadership, and staff development for the provision of quality resident care.  This position is expected to work full time (40 hours) on assigned schedule (dayshift: 645AM-3:15PM, evening shift: 2:45PM-11:15PM, night shift: 10:45PM-7:15AM).

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning of nursing education programs for all levels of personnel

  • Conduct conferences and discussions with personnel to encourage participation in formulating departmental policies, promote initiatives, solve problems, and present new procedures. Communicate needs to the DON and/or ADON.

  • Supervise nursing care employees and initiate disciplinary procedures when appropriate

  • Promote personal and professional growth of staff

  • Assess employee performances, completes employee evaluations, conducts employee evaluation conferences and disciplinary counselings as directed

  • Provide for effective distribution and utilization of personnel

  • Make recommendations related to recruiting, promotion, and discharge of personnel

  • Promote cost containment practices

  • Assist staff nurses in assessing the condition of residents and planning for nursing management. Advise and assist nurses in administering treatments.

  • Establish and maintain effective interdepartmental working relationships and promote guest relations

  • Cooperate in providing a safe and pleasant environment and maintaining a high level of morale for residents and nursing personnel

  • In the event of a call off or in the absence of adequate staffing, it may be necessary to fill the role of a staff nurse

  • Make significant clinical and administrative decisions for a specific shift based on department policies and procedures

  • Assume responsibility for the administrative functions in the absence of the DON/ADON, keeping Administration informed of departmental developments through oral and written reports

  • Fully aware of the implications of the Resident's Bill of Rights and seeks to promote its intent

  • Follow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and staff

  • Follow proper procedures and promote safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environment

  • Work cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, and other employees

  • Willingness to work under direction and supervision

  • Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways

  • In the event of a report/allegation of resident abuse or neglect promptly notify DON and/or ADON. Initiate investigation and ensure safety of residents and staff. 

  • Additional duties and tasks as assigned by DON and/or ADON

  • Responsible for completing the nursing supervisor report for the shift worked

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Evidence of progressive administrative experience desired

  • Must have discretion and tact, patience and compassion

  • Ability to independently operate technical medical equipment

  • Desire to work with individuals who may be frail and aged

 

Education/Experience:

  • RN licensed in Pennsylvania

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Certified in CPR by approved program that meets the state and federal regulations

  • Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience with a minimum of one (1) year in gerontology preferred
