Job Summary: 

Actively plan, lead and coordinate events and programs that enhance all areas of wellness for residents of Residential Living. Provide leadership to residents and team members to ensure successful implementation and facilitation of all functions Contribute to the Residential Living and Resident Engagement teams to create an effective and productive 'community' among Residential Living residents. Provide new and ongoing orientation to events and programs for Residential Living Residents and encourage new, innovative ideas for involvement and participation. 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, organize, and lead meaningful age-appropriate programs based on resident interests 

  • Motivate and encourage residents to explore opportunities for service, personal development, and wellness to enhance Residents' quality of life and sense of community at Messiah Lifeways 

  • Participate in New Resident Orientation Program for Residential Living 

  • Actively participate and provide leadership on several resident committees, such as movie committee and trip committee and other committees assigned by the Resident Engagement Manager 

  • Keep residents informed by ensuring accurate information is shared in weekly recurring activities list, MVTV, and Wellzesta. 

  • Plan, organize, and accompany residents on trips outside of Messiah Lifeways and work cooperatively with Transportation Department to make transportation arrangements 

  • Transport and/or assist residents to and from off-campus programs 

  • Work closely with the Wellness Department as appropriate to promote a vital Wellness program 

  • Follow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and team members 

  • Work with supervisor and Volunteer Department to identify resident volunteer opportunities on and off campus.  Coordinate volunteers for programs and projects from the Volunteer Department in a timely manner. Give direction to volunteers assigned to any given project or program. 

  • Coordinate with Campus Events Manager, and Supervisor to plan large group events for Residential Living as well as campus wide events.  

  • Work with Supervisor to request and/or purchase supplies needed to carry out programming and maintain enrichment budget Track and maintain budget for programs and events.  

  • Utilize electronic registration and payment system for trips. Notify Fiscal services of payments on a monthly basis.   

  • Ensure event decorations are seasonal, appropriate, and adhere to the aesthetics policy 

  • Provide updated information for Wellzesta as needed to convey upcoming programs/events, sign-up requests, and other important items pertaining to Residential Living. Work with the Residential Living Team and Manager to improve communication organizationally. 

  • Assess resident satisfaction with programming and other aspects of enrichment services periodically at the direction of the Resident Engagement Manager 

  • Follow proper procedures and promote safe work practices to maintain a safe working environment including guidance provided by the infection preventionist during programming 

  • Work cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, and other team members  

  • Willingness to work under direction and supervision 

  • Maintain tidiness of activity areas, activity office, and activity storage areas.  

  • Complete required trainings in a timely manner and attend meetings as assigned 

  • Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways 

  • Additional duties and tasks as assigned by the Resident Engagement Manager 

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Demonstrate leadership, a positive attitude, effective communication and organizational skills with residents, family and team members 

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and conduct meaningful enrichment programs based on resident preference and requests 

  • Efficiently uses time, is organized, and expresses self in a professional manner both orally and in writing 

  • Actively convey patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm with Residents and team members  

  • Knowledge of community events, personal wellness, and lifelong learning resources 

  • Must have basic knowledge of computer programs, audio-visual equipment and communication devices 

 

Education/Experience: 

  • Associates degree in Recreation or related human service field and/or at least two (2) years’ experience working directly with older adults preferred 

  • Experience with coordinating activity programs and trip planning 

  • Maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification 

  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive Messiah Lifeways vehicles including vans, wheelchair vans, automobiles, and golf carts
