Messiah Lifeways is a non-profit organization headquartered in Mechanicsburg, PA, that provides a network of services for adults 55 and better living in South Central PA. Our roots trace back to 1896, when the Brethren in Christ Church founded Messiah Home in Harrisburg, PA to serve older adults with Christ-like love.

This role is instrumental in supporting and caring for our residents, meeting their dietary needs, and maintaining healthy dining spaces.

What You’ll Do
- Checks dining rooms and makes sure all tables, counters and menu items are available and in place for the meal to be served.
- Transfers food items from the kitchen to the dining rooms or resident rooms
- Completes final stage of meal preparation
- Serve hot and cold foods according to established procedures; Offers hot and cold beverages according to menu breakdown, resident preference, and specialized diets.
- Circulates through the dining room and responds to the needs of the residents.
- Observes resident appetites and food intake as requested; Reports and/or documents to the manager any suggestions or concerns
- Ensures meals are served to residents’ satisfaction and specific to their dietary needs
- Complete daily documentation of recording dishwasher and food temperatures as well as daily meal census
- Bus and resets dining room tables
- Follows daily/weekly cleaning assignments to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen.
- Ensuring the kitchen is stocked according to neighborhood needs and refills condiments, salts and peppers, daily
- Return unused portions to the kitchen and notify the Executive Chef or Production Supervisor
- Assists other care team members as needed
- Maintains a positive, friendly and compassionate attitude while in the presence of residents, family members, and Messiah Lifeways team members
- Utilizes safety devices and follows safety precautions. Inspects all pieces of equipment prior to use for structural integrity and communicates any concerns to the manager.
- Correctly uses a variety of kitchen equipment for preparation, portioning, delivery and clean-up duties.
- Follows emergency procedures and responds rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and staff.
- Follows proper procedures and promotes safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environment.
- Works cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, and other employees; willingness to work under direction and supervision.
- Maintains confidentiality with regards to resident care and other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways
- Additional duties and tasks as assigned by the manager
- Actively participates in training of new team members
Potential career growth track: Cook, Sous Chef, Dining Supervisor
What Else You’ll Need to Know
- Prior dining experience within a healthcare or long term care setting is preferred but not required
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must have reliable transportation
Hours: Part-Time, 4pm-7pm
Pay: $15-$18 per hour, based on experience
