Position Summary: We are seeking a responsible and dedicated Lifeguard to ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons using the pool. The Lifeguard will monitor pool activity, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies. This role is essential to providing a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all swimmers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pool Supervision:

  • Monitor pool area to ensure the safety of all patrons. 
  • Maintain constant alertness and quickly identify potential hazards or emergencies.

2. Safety Enforcement:

  •  Enforce pool rules and regulations consistently and respectfully.
  •  Educate patrons on safe swimming practices and proper pool behavior.

3. Emergency Response: 

  • Provide immediate assistance during emergencies, including rescues and administering CPR/First Aid as necessary.
  •  Follow established emergency action plans and procedures.

4. Facility Maintenance: 

  • Inspect pool equipment and facilities for potential hazards or damage.
  •  Ensure the pool area is clean, organized, and free of obstructions.

5. Administrative Duties:

  • Record and report incidents, injuries, and maintenance issues.
  •  Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

6. Customer Service:

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all users of the pool.
  •  Assist patrons with questions or concerns professionally and courteously.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required Certifications: 

  • Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent). o
  • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification. •

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a lifeguard, particularly in a university or community setting.
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification is a plus. •

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong swimming skills and physical fitness.
  • Excellent observational and decision-making abilities.
  •  Ability to remain calm and act quickly in high-pressure situations. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in a hot, humid, and noisy environment for extended periods. 
  • Frequent standing, walking, and swimming are required.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Schedule and Availability:
  • Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the pool’s schedule and programming needs.
