Position Summary

The Assistant Director – GaelVentures Programs serves as a key member of the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation’s leadership team and is responsible for managing community-engaged programming. Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for the continuous improvement and advancement of high-quality experiential community-engaged learning initiatives for all Iona University students at the Hynes Institute’s collaborative community incubator space at 748 North Avenue in New Rochelle, NY.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing GaelVentures program space on 748 North Avenue.
  • Develop and manage GaelVentures programming in alignment with the mission, goals and programs of the Hynes Institute.
  • Leading all mentorship initiatives for the Hynes Institute, including but not limited to, mentoring the Iona students’, oversight of the Entrepreneurs-in-Residence Program, and managing our mentor network. 
  • Developing external networks with local businesses and organizations to support our student programs through site visits, off-campus events, community projects, and internships.
  • Managing the GaelVentures Incubator program supporting student and alumni entrepreneurs.
  • Developing and managing marketing and strategic communication efforts in support of GaelVentures programs.
  • Coordinating community-related projects and partnerships (e.g. WIN CityLabs, external student competitions).
  • Planning, organizing, promoting, and executing community and stakeholder events.
  • Assisting in the development of revenue generating business and funding opportunities.
  • Managing staff assigned to the GaelVentures programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by appropriate supervisory personnel.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Master’s degree required, preferably in business, entrepreneurship or related field.

Required Experience

  • Experience in community development and engagement.
  • Management, mentorship and development of staff (including university students).
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain relationships with multiple constituencies to support academic and community program development.
  • Management of staff and students in a higher education environment.
  • Strong knowledge of and connections to the start-up, entrepreneurship ecosystem in Westchester and surrounding community.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience in starting and managing an entrepreneurial venture.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, promoting, and executing events.
  • Development and management of outreach and marketing efforts; including building and engaging student communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal and presentations skills.
