Description

The Social Work Department of the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences seeks a dedicated full-time Director of MSSW Practicum Education and Clinical Lecturer of Social Work to join our dynamic, student-centered and highly collaborative team.  We are committed to providing a high-quality practicum education that prepares MSSW graduates for excellence in interprofessional collaborative practice.

 

This clinical faculty role is a blend of practicum education leadership (50%) and classroom instruction (12 credits, 50%), along with service responsibilities to the program, the School, and the University. The Director of MSSW Practicum Education will work closely with the MSSW Program Director, Department Chair and program faculty to design, implement, and refine an innovative, non-traditional practicum education model that meets the evolving needs of social work education and practice. This is a 10-month faculty position that requires an in-person presence. The position will begin in August 2025.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of the MSSW practicum education program, ensuring alignment with the program’s non-traditional and innovative practicum model
    • Serve as the Program point person for practicum agencies hosting Iona MSSW students and identify and procure new practicum partners as needed
    • Secure and process University/Agency Affiliation new contracts and maintain close working relationships with current practicum partners
    • Routinely evaluate the quality/effectiveness of practicum sites
    • Annually update MSSW Practicum Education Manual and update practicum-related documents as necessary and in accordance with CSWE accreditation standards
    • Organize and deliver orientations for students to Practicum sessions and  coordinate Practicum Instructor/Supervisor Orientations.
    • Provide practicum-related support to faculty teaching practicum placements and coordinate Professional Development Workshops.
    • Develop continuing education opportunities to support practicum supervisors’ development in particularly in the realms of culturally responsive, trauma-sensitive supervision skills; IPE facilitation, and provider well-being strategies
    • Serve as Program’s practice simulation coordinator for student simulation learning experiences (online and in-person)

 

  • Deliver engaging classroom instruction across the social work curriculum teaching a minimum of 12 credits across the social work curriculum
    • Create and routinely update course syllabi that accurately reflect and effectively serve the program’s integrated competency-based curriculum and assessment plan
    • Collaborate with program leadership to enhance practicum education initiatives, incorporating principles of interprofessional education (IPE), anti-racist social work education, and simulation-based training
    • Mentor MSSW Social Work students
  • Provide service to the program, School of Health Sciences, and University, contributing to initiatives that support our diverse student body and mission-driven education which includes service on School committees
  • Represent Social Work Department and MSSW Program with the highest levels of professionalism
  • Share in preparation and drafting of CSWE accreditation-related reports for candidacy and during accreditation cycle
  • Support and participate in the University’s system of shared governance
  • Demonstrate appreciation and respect for the Iona University mission, the NY-P Iona School of Health Sciences and Social Work Departmental culture, and the heritage of the Christian Brothers, as evidenced in an ability to establish and nurture strong collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff and the broader community.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Credentials:

  • MSW from a CSWE accredited program required
  • NYS license or license eligible (LMSW or LCSW)
  • Social work practice experience in an interprofessional setting
  • Minimum of three years teaching social work in higher education
  • Minimum of three years supervising social work students in a practicum setting
  • NYS SIFI certification (or willing to complete within first semester of employment)

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Strong computer/technology skills
  • Flexible, proactive, visionary comfortable with the process of innovation
  • Demonstrated engagement of anti-racism in teaching
  • Highly collaborative work style
  • Willingness to work regular schedule that will include some evenings, and occasionally to adjust regular schedule to meet program needs (e.g., weekend events)

 

Desired Experience/Abilities

  • Experience with interprofessional education and practice facilitation
  • Prior practice simulation experience
  • Conversational Spanish fluency
  • Spanish biliteracy (reading/writing)
