Description

The Residence Hall Director is a full-time, live-in, 12-month position that assists with the day-to-day management and supervision of a residential program of approximately 1,500 students by developing a comfortable, safe, supportive, and respectful community living environment. The RHD will participate in the on-call crisis rotation, train, supervise, and evaluate a Resident Assistant staff.

  • Assist in the overall day-to-day management of a residential program within a community development framework. This includes assisting with the closing and opening of the residence halls, check-in, check-outs, fire, health, and safety inspections, roster verification, room changes, room condition reports, and damage billing and occupancy management. Accept additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Serve in the professional on-call crisis rotation and adjudication of code of conduct behaviors to ensure a safe, clean, and functional living environment and to uphold community standards of the College and Residential Life. The Residence Hall Director will be required to work in the event of an emergency or severe weather conditions, whether or not the College is closed. The RHD will serve as a role model and must be familiar with, enforce, and support all Iona College and Residential Life policies.        
  • Supervise, train, and evaluation of Resident Assistant staff. Effective supervision of the Resident Assistants and student workers is key to the holistic development of the residential program. This includes management of program planning, implementation, and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Design and implement programs and events that foster academic, social, cultural, spiritual, and respectful community living environment and support department, Divisional, or institutional strategic goals. The RHD will also assist with Residential Life large-scale programming initiatives and be responsible for one programming series.
  • Lead, assist, and serve on Residential Life and College committees, initiatives or processes including but not limited to: Resident Assistant Selection and Training, In-Services, Orientation, Housing Selection, Summer Housing, major College and Residential Life events such including, but not limited to, Move-In Day, Accepted Students Day, benchmarking projects, etc.

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum of one year prior experience in Residential Life as a Resident Assistant, Graduate Assistant, Residence Hall Director, or experience working with college students in other higher education facets
