The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department at Iona University welcomes enthusiastic and motivated applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of biochemistry. The Assistant Professor will teach junior/senior level biochemistry courses for science majors as well as courses in related areas, including general chemistry and/or organic chemistry, according to expertise and departmental need. The Assistant Professor will also mentor undergraduate student researchers and participate in academic service activities. Research expertise in interdisciplinary areas (such as biomaterials or bioanalytical chemistry) is a plus. Our department offers BS degrees in both chemistry and biochemistry, with the option for ACS-certification, as well as a chemistry minor.

 

The successful candidate will be committed to working as a dedicated teacher-scholar within our ACS-approved program that serves undergraduate students, and will:

  • demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate chemistry courses, especially in the field of biochemistry;
  • work well within a collaborative instructional team;
  • establish a productive line of scholarly research with undergraduate student mentees; 
  • provide service to the academic community;
  • foster diversity in the chemical sciences through teaching, research, and service activities.

This full-time tenure-track position begins in August 2025 (option to start in January 2025 is available if desired).

Qualifications

Minimum required qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or related area
  • at least one year of relevant postdoctoral, academic, or industrial experience
  • at least two semesters of experience teaching in undergraduate courses
