POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Cornerstone Government Affairs is seeking intern candidates to assist our Mississippi State Government Relations team during the 2025 Legislative Session. Our Policy Intern Program provides a unique opportunity for selected candidates to gain first-hand experience in the fast-paced work environment surrounding government relations and consulting in Jackson, Mississippi.

 

Dates: January 6th through May 30th (flexible on actual start and end dates)

Required Hours: 20-25 hours per week

Requirements: In the second year of undergraduate programs or higher, a graduate student or a law student

 

The ideal candidate should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and high attention to detail. Candidates should be able to discern, identify and provide the appropriate level of information to stakeholders and hold a deep interest in politics and the legislative process. Exceptional candidates will have a proven track record of strong relationship building skills and be positive and proactive while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

 

Candidates should:

  • Attend committee hearings/study committees and take detailed notes on legislation that are relevant to the team;
  • Assist with drafting the weekly newsletter
  • Track and prepare general election reports for distribution.
  • Assist with organizational needs such as delegation lists, etc;

 

Cornerstone's policy internship Program offers: 

Cornerstone will reimburse for parking and expenses incurred directly related to the performance of Cornerstone business matters. Academic credit can be arranged upon agreement and documentation by the sponsoring institution. In addition, Interns are paid $17.50 per hour.
