Position Summary

 

Location: Linfield University – McMinnville, Oregon

Position Type: Full-time, Temporary (June 23 – October 31, 2025)

Reports to: Associate Director / Director of Admission

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule:

M-F 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; frequent evenings and weekends.

Job Description

As a member of the enrollment services team, this position has shared responsibility for participating in programs and activities designed to enroll new undergraduate students at Linfield University. The admission counselor intern must be effective at independently planning and managing recruitment strategies within assigned territories including travel, group presentations, receptions and individual meetings. As a face of Linfield University, this position is primarily a marketing representative providing outreach to prospective students from around the Pacific Northwest, specifically within Oregon. The position requires independent judgment and autonomy with work planning, external representation of the university and work with students, families, college counselors in high schools and alumni. The admission counselor advises students and families; and is responsible for recommending applicants through a holistic admission review process.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate student recruitment strategy for assigned geographic regions involving management of information and data on the Linfield admission CRM, documentation of prospective student contact with the college, group presentations, individual communication (face-to-face interviews, phone outreach, Zoom outreach, text and email) and application review.
  • Requires regular travel and frequent evening and weekend work typically at more than 40 hours per week.
  • As the college representative, travel to high schools, community colleges and college fairs to meet with counselors, prospective students and parents.
  • Attend and present at evening and weekend college planning events for prospective students and their families. Serve on panels and attend special college fairs/promotional events such as STEM, MEChA, AVID, College Possible and others.
  • Monitor and document individual travel budgets in keeping with department guidelines.
  • Participate in special events including campus open houses and Wildcat Fridays.
  • Maintain full knowledge of Linfield University – academic majors/minors, international programs, athletics, student life including residence life, financial aid, academic advising, etc.

Knowledge and Experience:

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree

 

Experience:

  • Two or more years’ experience as an admission ambassador and/or equivalent experience in college/university student leadership positions.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and group presentation public speaking experience.
  • Work effectively with diverse cultures.
  • Ability to communicate the merits of a liberal arts education, specifically at Linfield University.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Exercising sound judgment, problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and recordkeeping skills, attention to details.
  • Proficient computer skills using Word, Excel, CRM or other similar software applications.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel using all modes of transportation.

Position is considered light work. Constant seeing, hearing, sitting and talking. Frequent repetitive movement of hands, wrists, and fingers, walking, climbing stairs, and travel either by air or automobile. Occasional standing, bending, and lifting to 40 pounds. May be exposed to weather elements when going from building to building.
