Working as our Body Shop Manager means taking on a dynamic leadership role where every day presents new challenges and opportunities. You’ll manage a dedicated team of technicians, ensuring that high-quality repairs are completed efficiently, while fostering strong relationships with customers and insurance adjusters. The role is a mix of hands-on problem-solving, strategic planning, and customer service, all within a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and safety are paramount. The ideal candidate would have prior body shop management experience with a proven record of accomplishment.

 

Body Shop Manager Job Responsibilities

  • Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them.
  • Hires, trains, motivates and monitors the performance of all body shop employees.
  • Prepares and administers an annual operating budget for the body shop.
  • Directs and schedules the work of all body shop employees.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with insurance adjusters and customers to encourage repeat and referral business.
  • Monitors technicians' daily productivity reports and corresponding payroll records.
  • Gives fair estimates on costs and time required for bodywork.
  • Follows up on parts department orders to ensure parts availability.
  • Monitors progress and completion of vehicles in the shop, ensuring that proper repair and safety procedures are followed.
  • Maintains high-quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conducts periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
  • Checks the quality of completed work.
  • Handles customer complaints immediately and according to the dealership's guidelines.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Provides necessary training.
  • Ensures that proper safety equipment is available and being used properly.
  • Facilitates and/or conducts technical training and sends employees to appropriate training schools as needed.
  • Monitors the maintenance of paint booths, frame straightening equipment, and other large, fixed assets to ensure long-term usage and value.
  • Keeps abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommends purchases.
  • Ensures that the work areas and customer waiting area are kept clean.
  • Attends managers’ meetings.
  • Maintains professional appearance.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Acceptable attendance and punctuality.

Work Environment

  • Shop/service bay and office setting, with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and various materials.

Qualifications

Body Shop Manager Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with insurable driving record if driving company or customer vehicles.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications, I-CAR, CCC ONE, or other related professional training and certificates.
  • Manufacturer training.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for 6–8 hours per shift and lift parts weighing up to 75 pounds.

Corporate Hiring Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen – THC not included in the screening.
