Position Summary:  

   

The Assistant Director of Philanthropy plays a crucial role in supporting the financial sustainability and growth of the organization by cultivating relationships with donors, implementing mid-level giving strategies, and partnering with our direct marketing program. 

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors with the capacity to give $1,000 - $9,999 annually. 

  • Develop personalized cultivation strategies to engage a portfolio of ~ 200 donors and prospects, and build relationships. 

  • Regularly communicate with donors to provide updates on the organization's work, express gratitude, and steward their contributions effectively. 

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Philanthropy to derive and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with the goals of Joybound. 

  • Achieve or exceed annual goals for donor engagements, presented and accepted proposals, gift size, total revenue raised, etc. 

  • Analyze donor data and fundraising metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. 

  • Ensures appropriate and consistent donor-centric communications in all materials, such as solicitation, acknowledgement, and stewardship. 

  • Effectively utilize systems and software to record donor engagements; research and cultivate donors and prospects using Raiser’s Edge/NXT, WealthEngine, Crescendo, the internet, and/or other technology as appropriate. 

  • Attend, support, and enhance donor experiences at Joybound events. 

  • Maintain the utmost confidentiality of all Joybound donor, prospect, and/or other internal information. 

  • Practice and promote a positive, humane, and caring attitude toward people and animals; contribute to Joybound’s happy and collaborative culture.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  

Educational Requirements and Qualifications:  

Four-year college degree or equivalent professional experience. CFRE or similar professional designation preferred.  

  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Three or more years of experience in non-profit fundraising, with a demonstrated record of success in securing individual gifts of more than $5,000.   

  • Superior interpersonal skills, with the capacity to develop and advance relationships with a diverse community of donors, prospects, colleagues, volunteers, partners, and/or community members to achieve Joybound's goals. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 

  • Enthusiasm for the human-animal bond; concern for the welfare of people and animals; comfort with animals in the workplace. 

  • Proficiency in software and systems such as Raiser’s Edge/NXT, WealthEngine, Engaging Networks, Asana, Microsoft Office Suite, etc. 

  • A valid California Driver’s License with not more than two at-fault incidents in a three-year period and no major at-fault violations in the last ten years and must be insured. 

  • Pre-employment background check required. 

 

Physical/Environmental Requirements: 

  • Work environment includes constant exposure to animals and animal allergens. 

  • Push/pull moderately heavy objects up to 25 pounds. Kneel, bend, stoop, squat, reach above and below shoulder level, grasp and turn objects, stand and/or walk frequently and repetitively throughout each shift. Flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist. Sit for long and short periods of time using a computer. 

  • Drive an automobile. 

 

Hours:  

Full-time, exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, including occasional evening and/or weekend work. Hours and workdays may vary according to the needs of the department. A hybrid option will be available following the first 90 days (about 3 months) of employment.
