JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Mechanic II covers a range of technical duties related to processing equipment and systems. Responsibilities include the assembly, installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical/electrical equipment.

Good documentation practices to record maintenance and repair activities and support document control, change control, and validation activities are essential for this position.

Qualifications

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repairs, maintains, installs, inspects, troubleshoots, and adjusts a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment, such as valves, motors, pumps, conveyors.
  • Operates, adjusts, and performs maintenance on reactors, labelers, fillers, cartoners, printers, and other equipment to ensure compliance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Performs record keeping functions such as logging process equipment performance monitoring data, documenting maintenance work performed and recording unusual operating conditions.
  • Performs various types of tests on mechanical and electrical equipment (Amperage, Volts, resistance).
  • Required to respond to emergency callouts as needed.
  • Contributes to the efficiency of the department by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of the team.
  • Evaluates equipment and machine operation for repair needs.
  • Installs new equipment and coordinates calibration activities.
  • Uses power and hand tools as needed while following maintenance safety standards.
  • Schedules and completes preventive maintenance projects.
  • Removes and repairs various equipment and components.
  • Reads blueprints and diagrams to determine the best approach to troubleshoot, repair, or assemble any equipment or system.
  • Repairs hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies.
  • Other duties as required or directed

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performing essential functions, the Maintenance Mechanic II may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the plant:

  • Team member for problem solving to maintenance related issues.
  • Responsible for participation in internal plant audits.
  • Participates in cross-training in areas of responsibility.
  • Promotes safe operating and working procedures.
  • Keep effective working relationship with the staff and personnel contacted in the course of duties.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must have legible handwriting, and the ability to perform accurate documentation.
  • Must have good basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
  • Performing skilled maintenance work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must be organized, capable of following instructions, and have the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously. Troubleshooting and repairing a variety of electrical/mechanical problems with a clear working understanding of Electrical Codes, Standard Procedures and guidelines.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Knowledge of quality system and regulatory requirements pertaining to the production and sale of FDA regulated products preferred.
  • Must learn and understand SOPs, GMP, HACCP and have the ability to complete all required documentation.
  • Knowledge of Safety regulations, principles, practices, related facilities and equipment. Also, knowledge of safety data sheets (SDS)
  • Familiar with safety protocols associated with lock out/tag out.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be flexible in terms of working hours to meet requirements of position.
  • Must be able to fit and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and attire required to perform duties and assignments.
  • Must have the skills and judgment necessary to operate test meters, measurement tools, pallet jacks, scissors lift and forklifts in a safely manner and without damaging to materials, equipment, or facilities.
  • Must have 20/40 correctable vision.
  • Hearing well enough to converse on the radio, telephone and in person.
  • Bodily mobility to walk, bend, stand, crouch or climb for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear gowning and other personal protection as required for entry and work in New Vision Pharmaceuticals facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer as needed
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the plant on a timely basis.
  • Must be fluent in English

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education:

High School Diploma or GED certificate supplemented by formal technical coursework. 

Experience:

  1. At least three (3) years of direct experience in electrical and mechanical labor in a comparable position.
  2. Requires direct experience with Preventative Maintenance Programs, or equivalent combination of education and experience EPA, small hand tools, OSHA safety rules and regulations.
  3.  1-2 years of similar work in Food /OTC Pharmaceuticals manufacturing environment preferred.
