SUMMARY 

The Clinical Therapist, under the direction of the Senior Director of Mental Health Services, is responsible for providing therapeutic services to APCH members and their families. This includes providing individual, family, and group therapy to address the diverse emotional and mental health needs of participants. The Clinical Therapist will apply trauma-informed practices to foster a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for healing and growth. The Clinical Therapist will collaborate actively with other clinical therapists, case managers, and APCH program staff to implement a holistic, integrated approach to care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Conduct thorough mental health assessments for APCH members and coordinate therapeutic services
• Provide therapeutic interventions and services to APCH members and families through individual, family and group therapy.
• Assess and recognize behaviors or changes in mood indicating suicidal or homicidal intent or plan, and create safety plans when needed.
• Initiate appropriate and timely interventions that are culturally and linguistically sensitive to the family’s needs.
• Facilitate the counseling program according to and in compliance with the Board of Behavioral Services standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with other program staff to support socio-emotional learning program activities and program integration
• Work cross-functionally with other APCH programs to deliver psycho-educational support and staff training.
• Collaborate with the community to develop relationships and partnerships with other organizations.
• Adhere to mandated reporting requirements, including the reporting of any issues of abuse and neglect according to California law.
• Refer and report per mandated requirements any issues of abuse and neglect according  to the California law.
• Maintain compliant documentation of progress notes, treatment plans, and keep all records up to date.
• Facilitate psychoeducational classes for members and parents, develop curriculum in adherence with LAUSD K-12 standards to support member mental wellbeing.
• In addition to carrying a caseload, periodically conduct individual mental health and well-being check-ins for non-client members.

Other Responsibilities 

• Stay informed of emerging best practices in therapeutic services and client-centered care.
• Ensure compliance with grantor requirements, including federal and other funding regulations.
• Attends internal or external meetings as requested or required 
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrate accountability, regular attendance, and punctuality in all work-related commitments. 
• Adhere to the highest ethical, legal, and professional standards and values at all times. 
• Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events and field  trips 
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor to APCH members.
• Attend all required program meetings and events 
• Perform other tasks as assigned

Education/Training/Experience 

• Degree: Master’s degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work.
• Knowledge and experience in client-centered, trauma-informed care and family  systems approaches. 
• Must be registered under the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). 

Physical and Mental Demands 

• Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment typical of a youth center.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and use hands/vision for computer work.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
