Clinical Data Analyst

Job description The Healthcare Data Analyst supports Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and Uniform Data Systems (UDS) quality and process improvement activities by producing healthcare outcome measurements used for internal and external reporting. Tasks include data quality assurance, process programming, specification documentation, and report development. The Healthcare Data Analyst applies technical skills to design, develop, and generate data analytics using time management tools that may evolve into complex data analysis and data integration projects, for which this individual may be responsible for maintaining and storing. The complex data analysis/integration projects are those which may require periodic maintenance on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual, or annual basis. This position takes basic instructions or specifications and interviews with the internal clients for complete details sufficient for writing data queries based on ad hoc and ongoing health care measures. This position must understand the relationships between field elements in encounters and claims, as well as membership and provider databases. This position is a key resource to the Quality Performance Management (QPM) department on application use. This position supports the functions related to quality improvement activities, inclusive of quarterly reports that demonstrate healthcare outcomes in comparison to targets or national averages/percentiles published by recognized organizations such as the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Acts as a Subject Matter Expert and serves as a resource and educator for other staff. Responsibilities •This individual contributor is primarily responsible for assisting the Quality and Leadership team in supporting data-informed decisions, assisting with data and information gathering for targeted variables in an established systematic fashion, and assisting with data preparation for analytic efforts under the guidance of the Chief Medical Information Officer •This position assists with the execution of creative data analytic approaches leading to actionable outcomes and assists with data analysis interpretation under the guidance of Quality Director and Senior Leadership •Pursues self-development and effective relationships with others by sharing information with coworkers and customers; listening and responding to performance feedback; acknowledging strengths and weaknesses; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback •Completes work assignments by following procedures and policies and using data, and resources; collaborating with others to address business problems; adhering to established priorities, deadlines, and expectations; communicating progress and information to the Chief Medical Information Officer •Supports data-informed decisions under the guidance of Quality Director and Senior Leadership by assisting in the development of outcomes and process measures; documenting business requirements; adhering to data/information needs and data collection methods; supporting the measurement of impact of business decisions on clients, customers, and/or members; supporting end-users; and documenting processes and deliverables

•Assists with data and information gathering for targeted variables in an established systematic fashion by cleaning and organizing data; querying, merging, and extracting data across sources; completing routine data refresh and update; and providing user support and documentation •Assists with data preparation for analytic efforts under the guidance of Quality Director and Leadership Team by cleaning data to ensure quality and accuracy based on provided guidelines; and consolidating data •Assists with data analysis interpretation under the guidance of Quality Director and Leadership Team by organizing reports and presentations telling a compelling story to stakeholders to enable and influence decision making

 

• Assists with data analysis education for senior staff, clinic managers and staff that conducts regular data reports

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

 

Education:

 

•In lieu of a degree, equivalent education and/or experience may be considered

 

•Master's Degree in Public Health or Related analytics fields

 

Experience:

•5+ years of experience working with healthcare products and data, having directly worked with claims data, patient data, and other health-related data sets

•5+ years of professional experience as a healthcare data analyst or healthcare data engineer

 

•Must be able to apply and/or develop technical specifications for health care measures such as those used by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), HEDIS, UDS

 

•Must demonstrate advanced skills in developing programs and procedures for analytics and quality assurance

 

•Must be able to present data in a format that is appropriate for analysis

 

•Must demonstrate an aptitude for learning and expanding abilities to use new applications with basic training

 

•Must be a self-starter and can multi-task and take charge of assigned projects

 

•Proficiency in writing clean and maintainable SQL, Python, and shell scripts for automation, analysis,

industry best practices

•Deep knowledge of data security to protect highly confidential and sensitive data, especially in the healthcare

industry

 

•Knowledge of statistical tools like PowerBI, tableau, R, machine learning

 

•Certified Healthcare Data Analyst (CHDA), optional
