OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a Full-Time faculty member in Music to start in Fall 2025. We may appoint either a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music or an Instructor of Music depending on qualifications and experience. This new hire will be responsible for overseeing the University’s Jazz ensemble and Symphony, teaching new and existing courses in areas such as music technology, songwriting, digital music notation, and music theory, and contributing to the University’s Core curriculum.
Responsibilities will include full-time teaching (3/3 or 3/2 course load), This faculty member will work alongside the Assistant Professor of Music to oversee two instrumental ensembles. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching from a liberal arts perspective, stressing excellent writing skills, theoretical understanding, critical analysis, and connecting theory to practice. Furthermore, we are seeking candidates who will take advantage of the learning opportunities our Atlanta location has to offer by encouraging students to attend concerts/performances in the community (this may include organizing trips to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and/or other local ensembles) and engaging in student recruitment activities.
