POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Summer Food Service Support will help with the sorting and packing of summer meals and milk into vans for delivery throughout the summer. The support staff will assist with driving the mobile delivery routes, create and maintain a positive work environment, build working relationships with staff and volunteers, and conduct friendly interactions with children and community members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support food programming to meet the needs of the community and fulfil YMCA objectives.
  • Ensures the preparation of all meals is complete for Y programs which may include rotating inventory and packaging meals components.
  • Supports compliance with grant requirements.
  • Unload and load bins into the vans, count, and sort the meals upon delivery to the YMCA.
  • Drive and assist the vans on mobile routes to deliver meals in rural communities.
  • Track the number of meals, meal temperature, and number of meals served.
  • Visit food program sites to ensure compliance with program requirements, determines need and communicates findings to supervisor.
  • Adhere to USDA, YMCA, and program standards which include but are not limited to safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attend pre-summer food training sessions.
  • Maintain positive relations with staff, volunteers, and community members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with volunteers, staff and the community.
  • Work with minimal supervision, assess the needs of the facility and how to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in an effective way in the community.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely and relevant program data.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal commination skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid Maine driver’s license with clean driving history.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position is required to be performed on the YMCA premises and use YMCA vehicles for transportation to community sites.
  • Regular interaction with members, staff, and people in the community.
  • Supervision received from the Food Program Coordinator. May also take direction from senior staff.
