Role Summary:

The Sr. Accountant is responsible for leading the preparation of financial reports. Ensure complete, accurate, and timely completion of financial and accounting records for the credit union and prepare analysis of operations for management. Develop, manage, and maintain reliable accounting information and reporting on income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and capital for management planning and decision making and for fulfillment of financial reporting requirements. Oversee the reconcilement of general ledger and bank accounts. Make recommendations for process improvement and perform administrative duties for all areas of responsibility.

 

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Lead accounting functions to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgets, cash flow cost management, credit and collections, financial analysis, financial reporting and recordkeeping, general ledger, investments, taxes, and wire systems. 
  2. Lead and oversee preparation of all financial, statistical, and accounting records.  Oversee the payment of all liabilities of the credit union.
  3. Develop and implement process improvements to streamline and improve credit union accounting procedures.
  4. Assist in the formulation/execution of credit union policies, objectives, and programs.
  5. Work with auditors/examiners on year-end and comprehensive audits.
  6. Identify areas for improvement, changes in procedures, new developments, or changes in services or products. Keep peers up to date on trends and general credit union information.
  7. Reconcile revenue reports, unbilled variances, special projects, and claims disbursements.  Responsible for the proper recording of all revenues and expenses of the credit union.
  8. Must understand and perform Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) functions as applicable to job responsibilities.
  9. Attend credit union training sessions, conferences and seminars as approved by manager.  Maintain awareness of policies and regulations related to duties and responsibilities.  
  10. Keep manager advised of status of all projects; advise of concerns and trends to avoid risk.
  11. Perform all duties and maintain all sensitive data with the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism. Consistently display respect for all areas of diversity and levels of knowledge.
  12. Perform administrative support as necessary for completion of tasks assigned.
  13. Ensure all activities are in accordance with GAAP and accounting records are maintained accurately and incompliance with regulations and laws. Maintain understanding of NCUA Rules & Regulations, the Federal Credit Union Act and the Credit Union Bylaws and Policies, and report impact/changes may occur regarding the department.
  14. Monitor fixed-asset management.
  15. Assist with the preparation of the annual operating budget. Assist in preparing the department budget and monitor the budget throughout its lifecycle for compliance.

  1. Ability to multi-task on numerous projects simultaneously.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate in writing, in person and over the phone.
  3. Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to consistently produce accurate work.
  4. Ability to make quality decisions in a timely manner with extreme attention to detail.
  5. Ability to manage time, accomplish daily and bi-weekly goals, report to management on results regularly and prioritize work to meet deadlines in a high paced environment.
  6. Outstanding interpersonal and problem-solving skills and possess the ability to work in both a team.
  7. Work with minimal supervision.
  8. Knowledge of MS Office at an intermediate to advanced level.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Accounting, Finance or Business with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance
  2. CPA, CMA or MBA preferred
  3. Five (5) years of similar or related experience, credit union or banking experience required
  4. Experienced with standard office equipment, automated data processing systems including PC software programs and spreadsheets
  5. Some travel is required to achieve training and business objectives
  6. The ability to work independently and set priorities with limited management oversight

Salary Range:

$68,048.63 - $102,072.94
