Role Summary:
The SBA Sales Manager/Team Leader is responsible for driving the growth and profitability of the SBA loan portfolio. The role requires a dynamic and results oriented leader who will collaborate closely with retail branches and SBA sales team to generate SBA loan opportunities, deposits and treasury management referrals, ensuring alignment with the credit unions strategic objections. The SBA Sales Manager will also leverage their established referral network to bring in new SBA loans, deposits and treasury management referrals enhancing the credit unions market presence. Key responsibilities include developing and executing sales strategies, mentoring SBA Relationship Managers and SBA Associate Lenders and maintaining strong relationship with external partners to maximize loan production. This position will need to possess deep knowledge of SBA lending programs, a proven personal record in business development, and the ability to cultivate strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders. This role demands a proactive approach to market trends, ensuring Gesa Credit Union remains competitive in the SBA lending space.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Perform assigned duties in accordance with Gesa Credit Union and the SBA’s mission, vision, and core values; and provide the members with timely, responsive, and exceptional service in accordance with the credit union’s customer service standards
- Be the primary manager for SBA sales team including coaching, training, annual performance reviews, sales performance management, one-on-ones and more.
- Responsible for the personal annual production of $12 million or more, in government guaranteed SBA 7(A) loans. The typical mix of deals is 75% 7a and 25% 504 deals. Other goals for business deposits and treasury management services will also be required.
- Advanced understanding of the SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), including origination, servicing, and liquidation.
- Actively maintain business development plans and strategies to prospect new SBA business lending, deposit, and treasury management relationships.
- Serve as a liaison between branches and commercial loan officers to respond to referrals for new SBA business.
- Serve as a coach/mentor to SBA Department staff and other credit union staff members.
- Coordinate sales activities for the SBA division.
- Handle and resolve customer complaints regarding a product or service
- Assist in setting SBA team sales quotas/goals and directing performance in the sales team.
- Assess applicants’ business needs, recommend suitable bank products and services, and support their business growth and success. Process credit applications by interviewing loan applicants, reviewing credit histories and financial information, analyzing credit reports, and evaluating existing and projected company cash flow to assess creditworthiness.
- Determine value of collateral, through review of appraisal, valuations, business financials, etc.
- Respond to inquiries regarding business and consumer lending and other credit union products.
- Recommend approval or decline of credit applications within credit union and SBA Criteria.
- Monitor loans through periodic reviews and documentation in conjunction with SBA Underwriter and/or Portfolio Management as requested.
- Perform site inspections as required under credit union and/or SBA guidelines.
- Review maturing loans, loan extensions, and construction draws.
- Collect past due accounts and/or support SBA Lending Manager in the collection of accounts.
- Properly maintain credit files including file memos updating the status of the client relationship.
- Maintain knowledge of and promote all credit union products and services with active referrals to credit union partners.
- Provide exceptional, timely, and responsive customer service to both internal and external members/teams.
- Maintain knowledge of SBA lending programs to facilitate and service all SBA loan programs.
- Always present a professional demeanor and image to internal and external members. They will have the ability to present informative proposals that add value to business members. This includes keeping abreast of national and local economic news.
- Provide recommendations for internal processes of the SBA Division.
- Respond to company representatives’ inquiries in a timely, friendly, and accurate manner.
- Maintain knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures which impact assigned responsibilities.
- Consistently display successful communication and listening skills with peers, members, Supervisor, and vendors.
- Maintain and protect all sensitive data utilizing the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism.
About You:

- Thorough knowledge of credit services and other credit union services, lending policies and procedures, and business cash flow.
- Proficient computer skills with collaboration and productivity tools including Windows-based operating systems and office suites (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); spreadsheet applications to organize data used for advanced data analysis; internet; email; and bank software.
