Job Summary:

SEGA of America is looking for a hardworking, motivated, and highly organized Paralegal & Manager of Legal Operations to support its continuing growth, with a focus on contracts and legal operations. This position will be part of the Legal & Business Affairs Department and work under the supervision of attorneys to support SEGA of America’s video game and consumer products and services. A good fit will be flexible to take on different roles and responsibilities and enjoy working collaboratively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft, negotiate and finalize a high volume of agreements, including merchandise license, services, vendor, development, advertising, marketing, software-as-a-service and nondisclosure agreements.
  • Assist with the preparation and creation of legal correspondence, statements of work, insertion orders, contest rules, affidavits of eligibility, releases, agreement templates and other documents as needed.
  • Assist with the legal clearance of marketing and video game assets.
  • Work closely with attorneys and clients within merchandise licensing, marketing, product development and other internal partners.
  • Manage legal operations function by maintaining and improving Sega’s current internal legal management systems, processes and best practices.
  • Implement new legal systems, processes and best practices in order to improve team efficiency.
  • Oversee and balance legal team’s workflow and coordinate with legal team on assigning agreements and other legal documents and projects.
  • Manage and delegate responsibilities to direct report.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements including merchandise licensing, nondisclosure, services, and software-as-a-service agreements.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Positive and professional attitude. Must demonstrate passion and enthusiasm.
  • Strong aptitude for learning. Willingness to take on increased responsibility.
  • Impeccable organizational and time-management abilities. Able to adapt to changing priorities and demands. Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starting personality with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to take direction from attorneys and work independently with little or no supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with intellectual property issues (e.g., copyrights, trademarks, etc.).
  • Experience working in the video game or entertainment industry / interest in video games.
  • Paralegal certificate.
  • Experience with Ironclad or other contract management systems.
  • Experience with DocuSign.
