POSITION TITLE: Bronx Facilities Manager

DEPARTMENT: Facilities & Real Estate Administration

REPORTS TO: Facilities Director

DIRECT REPORTS: Custodial Personnel

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Bronx Facilities Manager provides leadership and guidance to the custodial staff servicing Covenant House New York (CHNY) Bronx locations and ensures the grounds, facilities, and equipment of CHNY Bronx sites are in good and working order as well as maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner for youth and staff. This position may require the individual to assist in or solely perform general maintenance and repairs. Additionally, this position requires on-call support to the Bronx team during off-hours.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure the five CHNY’s Bronx facilities are well-maintained, attractive, clean, and in good working order for programmatic purposes.
  • Supervise Bronx custodial personnel to ensure adherence to CHNY’s policies and standards of all facilities-related staff members.
  • Work in partnership with facility and programmatic personnel to identify, prioritize, and address any needed facility-related supports
  • Maintain comprehensive inventory records and processes, timely and accurate supply orders, and associated payment actions.
  • Schedule, track, attend,d and prepare for all annual governmental or funder site compliance visits.
  • Assist in establishing an effective preventive maintenance program of cleaning, painting, maintaining equipment, etc., as necessary/approved.
  • Contact and work with outside vendors to ensure that outsourced services and repairs are performed correctly. Report results or problem areas to the Facilities Director.
  • Anticipate issues, prioritize, and plan with the team and CHNY leadership for efficient and realistic action plans on various projects and ensure completion of projects/plans within set deadlines.
  • Prioritize, review, and follow up on all daily work order requests until completion.
  • Attend all mandatory training in compliance with CHNY’s policies and procedures.
  • Remain on-call 24 hours a day for all emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or needed by the Facilities Director.
  • Participates in and facilitates regular case conferences. Ensures team members are fully apprised of information regarding youth as needed.
  • Participates in staff team meetings and training, individual supervision meetings, and meetings with youth

Qualifications

Qualifications, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • High School diploma or equivalency required. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Ability to travel to and between Bronx locations
  • Working knowledge and understanding of HVAC controls, heating systems, electrical systems, and construction methods/admin required.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to operate independently.
  • Track record of integrity and sound judgment.
  • Ability to adapt well to changes in direction and priority in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to assess and recognize quality and quickly identify problems.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A customer-focused attitude and track record of delivering high levels of quality service.

  • Ability to remain calm while handling high risks or crises.

  • Moderate physical effort required – climbing, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and routine discomfort from moderate heat levels, cold, noise, and air pollution.
